The Novotorzhsky district of the Tver province (Torzhoksky district) is located in the north-west of the Kalininsky district of the region and has an advantageous location in terms of the passage along it of the most important St. Petersburg highway.

The plans of the General Survey (PGM, PGM) of the Novotorzhsky district show in detail all settlements, relief, roads and other objects of interest for any searcher or treasure hunter.

PGM Novotorzhsky district is divided into 4 (four) parts. This is the most important document of the late 17th years, defining land plots, their size and boundaries. All General Surveying Plans are extremely useful for both experienced and novice treasure hunter.

Another informative archiver with maps can now be found at the link below. This is a graphic supplement to the publication of the Tver Provincial Zemstvo "Statistical - economic study of unpaved roads in the Tver province (1912)".

In total, the archive contains 12 schematic road maps of the Tver Province by districts: Tverskoy, Korchevsky, Kalyazinsky, Kashinsky, Bezhetsky, Vesyegonsky, Vyshnevolotsky, Ostashkovsky, Rzhevsky, Zubtsovsky, Staritsky, Novotorzhsky.

I hope the archiver will be useful for treasure hunters to select potential places to search. And, I think, road maps are especially relevant in the summer, because in the fields of grass, and it makes sense to walk along the roads.

Maps of the Tver province of the early 20th century

An interesting archivist with maps of the Tver province of the early 20th century. The archive suggests six cards starting in 1900 and ending with one of the first maps of the R.S.F.S.R. - 1918.

The maps are different, including the "Archaeological Map of the Remnants of Antiquity and Antiquity of the Tver Province", published by the Tver Accounting Archive Commission. It is on this map that especially ancient places and tracts are indicated, known at the beginning of the 20th century.

In each map, a lover of instrumental search in our area will be able to find any useful information for himself, especially since these maps are not as popular as, for example, the maps of Mende or Strelbitsky. In addition, comparing these maps with popular maps can provide more complete information about the locations and characteristics of objects.

Tver province was established under Paul the First in 1796 on the lands belonging to the governorship of the same name. The Tver governorship, in turn, was established during the administrative reform of Catherine II in 1775 from the lands that were previously part of the Tver province of St. Petersburg (former Ingermanland), then the Novgorod province. Throughout the subsequent pre-revolutionary history of the Tver province, the composition of its counties and their borders changed several times - for example, under Paul the First in 1796, the counties of Vesyegonsky, Kalyazinsky, Korchevsky were abolished, again restored under Alexander the First (1802). After the territorial transformations of Alexander the First, the province remained within its certain boundaries. The Tver region is slightly larger than the province, mainly due to the territories of the Belsk district of the Smolensk province and part of the Pskov province, annexed to the Tver region.

In Tver province in whole or in part
there are the following maps and sources:

(except for the general
all-Russian atlases, where this province may also be)

Land surveying map of Tver province(1778-1797)
Land surveying map - non-topographic (without specifying latitudes and longitudes), hand-drawn map of the late 18th century (after the redistribution of borders in 1775-78) on a scale of 1 inch = 2 versts 1cm = 840m or 1inch = 1 verst 1cm = 420m. As a rule, the county was drawn on the parts that are shown on the index sheet. In the Tver province, in the RGADA, mainly two-sided land surveying (not counting the most detailed plans for summer cottages) have been preserved.

Mende Map of Tver Province(1850)
Mende map - topographic (showing latitudes and longitudes), map of the late 1850s. In Tver province there is a scale of 1 inch = 2 versts 1cm = 840m and 1inch = 1 verst 1cm = 420m.
The maps are colored, very detailed, divided by counties. The purpose of the map is to show the boundaries of land plots with reference to the area.

Modern borders of the Tver region are somewhat different from pre-revolutionary, which is very schematically shown in the figure next.
