Dragon Age: Origins (in Russian localization Dragon Age: The Beginning) is a single-player fantasy RPG developed by the Canadian studio BioWare and released by Electronic Arts in 2009, which can be called the spiritual successor of the famous Baldur's Gate.

Players will have to wander around a fairytale world as part of a squad, fighting side by side with its members and communicating with them. Negotiations in general mean a lot in this game - the remarks and behavior of the companions directly depend on the situation in which you find yourself and what decisions you make at one time or another. By the way, players can take up to three partners with them at the same time, which makes each sortie from the camp memorable and unique.

System requirements

  • Processor: Intel Core 2 with 1.4 Ghz / AMD X2 with 1.8 Ghz;
  • RAM: 1 GB;
  • Video card: ATI Radeon X850 128MB / NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB;
  • 20 GB of free space on HDD.

Plot

The plot of Dragon Age: Origins is extremely rich in details and various surprises. All events that take place are recorded in the game log, which also notes conversations, key plot rehearsals and many other incidents. The game takes over a hundred hours to complete - with all the side quests completed, of course. Players will visit both large cities and small villages, explore various ancient ruins, go deep underground and walk through the elven forest - the geography of visits in the game is huge.

In total, 6 unique storylines are available in the game, and the plot component depends on the race and class of the hero. Players are offered a choice of three separate races (humans, gnomes and elves) and three main classes (warrior, thief and magician). In addition to this, the character receives skills inherent only to his class of skills and special skills that can be learned through books or communication with other characters. In Dragon Age: Origins there are a lot of options for the development of the hero, and the extremely high "ceiling of development" allows you to create 2 completely different characters, even despite their identical background.

Characters (edit)

The player starts the game by creating a character and choosing one of 6 backstories. Gender selection does not change the background, except for the nuances. The player can choose the name of the hero himself, the surname cannot be changed:

  • Nobleman- Kusland, youngest son or daughter of Teirn Hayever. The game begins with the fact that the day has come for the departure of the eldest son and brother of the player's character Fergus to the war against the Spawn of Darkness. As soon as the brother goes on a campaign, at night the castle is attacked by the former friend of the Couslands and the hero of the war with the Orlesian Empire, Earl Howe, who was visiting the castle, and kills everyone in the castle (servants, guests, wife and son of Fergus). Desperate, the hero finds his father mortally wounded near a secret exit, where he was brought by the Gray Guard Duncan, who also stayed with the Couslands at the estate. The mother of the protagonist refuses to run, and the hero is taken to the Gray Guard by Duncan. Of the features of the storyline in the sequel, it can be noted that Fergus was sent with intelligence by King Kaylan, after which his brother and all intelligence disappeared without a trace. It can also be noted that for a human nobleman, you can settle the score in a special way with Earl Howe, as well as become king (or queen) during the completion of the quest line. If you do not play for this character, then the entire Kusland family, except for Fergus, is considered dead.
  • Mage (human or elf)- Amell or Surana, mage of the Ferelden circle. The game for him begins with a ritual called "Torment", in which the character goes to the Shadow - the local world of spirits. The goal of passing Torment is to kill the demon. However, the main goal is not to succumb to the temptations of demons and return without becoming possessed by a malevolent spirit. After successfully passing the tests, the young magician Jovan, whom they want to make pacified, will ask for your help. He decides to run away, and the hero agrees to help him, out of the kindness of his soul or at the request of the First Sorcerer. But in the end, both Jovan and the protagonist are caught by the templars. Jovan manages to escape, and they want to put the hero under arrest, but Duncan stands up for him and offers to join the Gray Guard. If you do not play as a magician, then Jovan still escapes, but on his own, and meets with the hero in the castle of Earl Eamon. Also in the second part of the game, a magician from the circle named Amell is mentioned, who turns out to be a relative of the Hawk family.
  • Dalish elf- Mahariel, an elf of one of the Dalish clans who stumbled upon human marauders looking for treasure in a cave. The hero and his companion Tamlen go inside and find a magic mirror - Eluvian. Over the centuries that the artifact spent in ruins, it deteriorated, and young hunters became victims of its magic. The main character is saved by Duncan, but his companion - Tamlen - disappears without a trace. The apprentice of the Keeper of the clan Merril and the player's character will go in search of Tamlen, but they will only find Duncan, who will explain: the magic mirror is struck by dark magic - filth - and infects with it all who had the misfortune to get close to him. He declares Tamlen dead, and the main character has no choice but to believe him and join the Gray Wardens, who supposedly know the cure for corruption. However, in the future, you can meet Tamlen during one of the "random encounters" on the map. The Dalish dies of filth and the main character will have to cut off the suffering of a friend. Passing for the Dalish facilitates communication with the Dalish elves throughout the story, and Hawke's companion Merril in the second part will repeatedly mention Mahariel and Tamlen. And the mirror with which her quests are connected is the same broken mirror from the ruins.
  • City elf- Tabris, an elf from the Denerim elfinage who marries / marries his brother Soris by arranged marriage. The hero also has a sister, Shianni, and a father. On this day, the Gray Guard Duncan comes to Elphinage and goes to talk to the elder of the village. Unfortunately, at the very beginning of the wedding, the son of Earl Denerim named Vaughan comes along with the squad and, stunning the main character, takes both brides and Shianni to his estate. In the case of a female character, she is also taken away. After waking up, the main character and his brother Soris go to save the girls, killing Vaughan. In the case of playing as a female character, Soris walks in the company of the groom, who is killed at the hands of Vaughan's soldiers. After returning to the elfinage with the girls, the guards will come for the main character and his brother, but Duncan intercedes for the hero and takes him to the Gray Guards. In the course of the game, you can return to Elvenage, where Soris sits at home, the hero's father is taken by the slavers, and Shianni leads the Elvenage's defense against the Spawn of Darkness. If you do not play for the city elf, he dies before the events of his initiation, and Vaughan sits alive in Denerim's prison, from where he asks to release him.
  • Dwarf commoner- Throwing, an untouchable dwarf from Orzammar, works for the Charter, or rather for its head Berat. The main character, who performs the dirtiest tasks (from racketeering and extortion to smuggling and murder), has a mother who suffers from alcoholism and a sister whom they want to get to work as a prostitute. Berat will give the protagonist several tasks, the last of which will become fatal for the hero: he will be forced to fight instead of the warrior Everd, and during the battle it will become clear that it is not a gnome from the warrior caste that is actually fighting, but an untouchable gnome, which is prohibited by the law of gnomes. The hero is thrown into a prison, from which he is forced to flee, having learned that his sister is in danger. Subsequently, the hero kills Berat and is caught by the guards. All this was helped by his friend, who shared his troubles with him, and vowed to watch over his sister while Duncan took the hero to the Gray Guard. Subsequently, according to the storyline, the hero can return to Orzammar and put an end to the Charter for which he worked, killing its new leader - Jarvia (originally she was Berat's "right hand"). If you do not play as an untouchable gnome, Jarvia kills Berat herself, and she needs to be killed anyway, without further ado.
  • Dwarf Aristocrat- Edukan, middle son or daughter of King Orzammar, who has two brothers Belen and Trian. The hero's father is already old and bequeaths the title to one of his three sons, and the sons decide to destroy each other, first of all taking care of the middle brother. His friend Gorim, the most faithful of all friends, comes to the hero. Together with Gorim, the hero has to avoid his own death, and at the same time prove his right to the throne. At the very end, the hero is substituted by his brother Belen, who made an appointment with the hero, but when he arrived, he found Trian's body at the meeting place. At that moment, Belen comes, who set him up, and the father, who found the hero with the body of his brother. Almost everyone betrayed the hero, except Gorim, and a verdict was passed on the council. Against the verdict were Lord Harromunt and the Gray Guard Duncan, who did not believe in the hero's guilt. As a result, Gorim was expelled from Orzammar to the surface, and the hero was taken to the Gray Guard. Upon returning to Orzammar, the hero learns that Belen hastened his father's death and decided to take the throne. Harromunt does not allow him this, fighting for the throne. Initially, Belen, upon learning of his brother's return, wants to kill him and then lure him over to his side, but you can also refuse (and then Belen's people will attack the hero several times in an attempt to kill him) and take the side of Harromunt, who will give you difficult tasks and , in the end, after several unsuccessful attempts on his life, Belen himself will come to the hall and try to kill both Harromount, the hero, and everyone who was in the hall, but later the hero kills his brother, and Harromount gives his strength to fight the Blight. If you take the side of Belen, he will also give strength (less than Harromunt), and, having handed his brother's hammer, gently expels the hero from Orzammar forever. If you do not play for a dwarf aristocrat, then according to him, the king and Triana are killed by roundabout ways by Belén himself, striving to become king.

Following the plot of each of the backstories, the player is faced with the Gray Guard Duncan, recruiting new recruits into the ranks of the order, as the Blight approaches - an invasion of monsters known as the "Spawn of Darkness". Together with Duncan, the player goes to the ancient fortress of Ostagar, where he has to undergo a ceremony of initiation into the Gray Wardens and help the king of Ferelden Kailan to fight the advancing Spawn of Darkness. For the initiation rite, the blood of the Spawn of Darkness is needed, and the player, together with other recruits and the Gray Guard Alistair, goes to extract it in the Wild Lands of Korkari, where, at the same time, with the help of the witch Morrigan and her mother, the legendary witch of the Wild Lands Flemeth, he finds the ancient Pacts of the Gray Guardians. Upon initiation, each recruit is given to drink the blood of the creatures of darkness with the addition of one drop of the Archdemon's blood, only the player's character is destined to survive.

The battle begins. According to King Kailan's plan, the player's character and Alistair must light a signal fire on one of the towers, thereby signaling the teirn Loghain (Kailan's father-in-law) to send troops into battle. It turns out that the Spawn of Darkness has already filled the tower, the player has to break through with a fight to light the fire, but Loghain, seeing the signal, decides to withdraw his troops, thereby dooming the king and his army to death. The hero and Alistair are saved by Flemeth. She sends her daughter Morrigan, along with the player character and Aleister, to help the Guardians in the fight against the Blight. Alistair suggests using the Treaties and gathering an army of Dalish elves, Circle mages and Orzamar dwarfs.

Meanwhile, the traitor Loghain proclaims himself regent, and the kingdom finds itself on the verge of civil war. The hero, Alistair and Morrigan arrive at the village of Lothering, where refugees live. In the tavern, they are attacked by Loghain's people, but the hero and his companions fight them off with the help of the novice Leliana (Sister Nightingale). And passing through the village, the heroes discover Stan's Qunari, whom the hero frees after convincing the Reverend Mother to hand over the key. Upon leaving Lothering, the hero and his squad see the merchant Bodan and his son Sandal, attacked by the Spawn of Darkness, and save them. Grateful gnomes go on a hike together with the hero and his companions.

Next, the hero will have to choose one of 4 paths - the path to Radcliffe, where they want to ask for help from Earl Eamon, as well as to the camp of the Dalish elves in the Brecilian forest, the dwarf city of Orzammar, and to the Circle Tower near the pier by Lake Kalenhad. Traveling around Ferelden, the player visits these places and encounters local problems that he has to solve, each time facing a choice. After solving the problems, Dalish elves (or werewolves), mages of the Circle (or templars), the army of Radcliffe, the dwarves of Orzammar and golems (if the Anvil of the Nether was saved) join you.

Next, the hero goes to Denerim to the Meeting of the Lands, convened by Earl Eamon. There he leads a covert battle against Thayrne Loghain, gathering information about his crimes. At the Lands Meeting, he presents this evidence, thereby exposing Loghain.

After the Gathering of the Lands and the election of a new ruler of Ferelden, the player goes to Radcliffe to fight the horde of Spawn of Darkness led by the revealed Archdemon. But it turns out that the main forces of the Horde are moving towards the weakly defended Denerim. The hero gathers an army and goes there. The hero's army reaches the city when there are already the Spawn of Darkness in it. He makes his way through the Horde, battling numerous enemies, and finally gets to the Archdemon. At the end, a battle ensues at the top of Fort Drakon, where the hero defeats the Archdemon and saves Ferelden from Blight. The player is awarded the title of Hero / Heroine of Ferelden.

Interesting Facts

GameSpot's Dragon Age: Origins' Best PC Game of 2009 'and Gamespot.com users' Best RPG 2009', 'Best PC Game 2009', 'Best Story', 'Best Original IP ”,“ Best Story and Dialogues ”.

The game won the Game of the Year and RPG of the Year (2009) nominations by Igromania magazine.

The Russian portal Absolute Games gave the game a rating of 92 out of 100. Dragon Age: Origins also took first places in the nominations for Best PC Game, Best RPG, Best Game Narrative, Best Visual Series, Best Pre-rendered Videos ”,“ Best Sound ”,“ Best Music ”and“ Best Title Music ”in the AG's Annual Reader Survey 2009. In addition, the game was ranked second in the Bloodiest / Brutal Game category and third in the Best Xbox 360 Game and Best PS3 Game.

Alistair is the youngest Gray Guardian in the order. He is an optimist, a joker. Royal blood also flows in the veins of this Gray Guardian, as Alistair is the illegitimate son of the late King Maric. But even knowing this, the joker does not want to become king. As a child, he was given to the temple, after which he became a templar, but Duncan took the prince in time, right before Alistair took the vow of the templar, seeing his grief and unwillingness to become a minister of the church. Nevertheless, the former templar retained prejudices against magicians. At the same time, Alistair adores all sorts of amulets, talismans and other "magic" items.

Alistair is kind, appreciates good human deeds, but does not tolerate evil. He is funny, but at the same time, he often “dissolves”, recalling the death of Duncan and so on.

Alistair has a sister, Goldann. She lives in Denerim's shopping district, next to Wade's blacksmith workshop. When Alistair and the Gray Guard come to her, she will not welcome them very warmly, after which the upset Alistair, together with the Gray Guard, will go out into the street. Teirin will once again complain to the Gray Warden. If you blame Alistair and tell him that life is not a fairy tale, Alistair's character will become more solid. He will become more decisive, cruel, will not treat the idea of his coronation with great contempt.

He is accepted into your detachment already under Ostagar. Will leave you if you save the life of Loghain McTeer.

The Call prequel book introduces the theory that Alistair is the son of an elf wizard who was the Gray Warden and whom King Maric slept with during the events in the book. At the end of the book, she introduces a human infant to him, claiming that a human and an elf child is always a full-blooded human. Perhaps this is Alistair.

In the second part, Alistair will appear if he survived the events of the first part. The appearance also depends on the events of the first game. He may appear as a king, a Gray Warden, or a drunkard at the Hangman Tavern.

Wynn

Wynn is one of the greatest magic healers who could have become the First Sorcerer, but refused. This sorceress chose to help the Gray Wardens, so she also attended Ostagar's presence and saw Loghain's betrayal. She can leave you, but after attacking, if she finds out that you are a blood mage (if you are). If you defile Andraste's ashes, she will also leave.

Wynn had an apprentice, an elf named Aneirin. Wynn will mention him in the conversation, after which the Gray Warden may promise her to look for him. Aneirin became a healer and went to the Dalish people. However, he does not live in their camp, but prefers to wander through the forest. If you find Aneirin and bring Wynn to him, she will be immensely grateful to the Gray Warden.

“Inside” Wynne, so to speak, has a kind spirit from the Shadow. He possessed her during the battle with the demon, when she was protecting children and students. Wynn lost the battle and died, but after she was resurrected and destroyed the demon. As you travel, the spirit's abilities will increase. However, Wynn admits that the spirit is weakening and will soon leave her, and then she will die.

Wynn appreciates good, right deeds, but despises freedom-loving apostate magicians, does not tolerate maleficars (blood magicians), because he considers them magicians who do evil, not good.

Mrs. Coutrain

He is the commander of the detachment, despite his peasant origin. Teirn Loghain's right hand. From her body, you can remove the sword from the codex - the Summer Sword or the Sword of Summer. Lady Coutrain is infinitely loyal to Loghain. During the Battle of Ostagar, it was she, along with Loghain, who commanded the soldiers of MacTeer. However, she does not always approve of his actions and decisions: for example, when Loghain gives the order to retreat, during the assault on Ostagar, Koutrain will ask dumbfounded about the king, but after that, angrily pulling back the hand that Loghain grabbed, he will still withdraw the troops. The servant of Queen Anora will come running to Earl Eamon and you will be sent to rescue her. You will fight Earl Howe, after which Koutren will attack you. If your companions are strong, you can defeat her. Before the Lands Gathering, Koutren will try to stop the Gray Warden by force. However, if the Gray Warden is eloquent enough, he (or she) can persuade Lady Coutrain to withdraw. With a sad sigh, Coutrain will finally understand what McTeer has become, and will let the Gray Warden pass.

Duncan

Leader of the Gray Wardens in Ferelden. He appears in all backstories of the game, regardless of which one you choose. An ogre was wounded at Ostagar, then he was cut in two with an ax of the garlock-leader. However, the ogre is killed by Duncan.

Duncan's body, like the other soldiers, was never found. Most likely, the spawn of darkness simply devoured him or, due to the fact that he is a Gray Warden, they burned him.

It seems that Duncan was perfect in two types of combat: with a sword and dagger, and with a sword and shield. In the Battle of Ostagar, he fought with an enchanted sword and dagger, however, his shield can also be found in the Gray Wardens cache.

The Book of The Call reveals Duncan's origins. In his youth, he was a pickpocketing thief in the Orlesian slums (although he was originally from Rivain), but was caught and sentenced before he was freed by the Gray Warden and accepted into the order (most likely because of this he recruited Davet) ... Even after that, Duncan did not immediately get rid of the habit of grabbing everything that was lying badly. At the end of the book, the Guardian Command appoints him as the main Guardian in Ferelden.

Zevran

Zevran is an elf, the son of a whore and a lumberjack. He grew up in a brothel, and after that, he was bought by the Antivan Ravens - the best assassins in Antiva, and possibly in the whole of Thedas. Zevran's past is rather vague, and he doesn't really want to talk about it. The only thing that is initially known about him is that he grew up in Antiva, raised first by prostitutes and then by the Ravens, became one of the best assassins, and was hired by Loghain to kill the Gray Warden.

Zevran has a very ambiguous personality. On the one hand, he mocks himself and the entire public, but on the other hand, he takes offense when he is reproached for something. Zevran is cold-blooded in battle. Trained at the Antivan Assassins Guild, Antivan Ravens, Zevran has endured a lot of bullying, passed "natural selection" and became the best of the best. He realized that in order to achieve the main task - killing - everything is good, therefore he uses "dirty" techniques, poisons and even bombs in battle.

Zevran is very ironic, although his irony often turns into wicked black humor. Zevran's mother was Dolian, so he speaks well enough of this people and will be very upset if the Gray Warden destroys the elves in the Brecilian Forest.

Zevran is very nostalgic for his homeland - Antiva. He often thinks of the brothel where he grew up and the smell of Antivan leather. In Dragon age II, Isabella remembers him, as he killed her husband with a dagger in the head.

Jovan

Maleficar. In the Tower of the Circle, he fell in love with one of the priests, who told him that the templars intended to make him pacified for allegedly "studying the magic of blood." He asked an unknown circle magician, or your protagonist to help him, but, in the end, the escape with his beloved failed, the templars tried to grab him, but he was able to escape, causing them great physical harm. His beloved, by her own will, was imprisoned. She could not forgive Jovan for lying about his innocence to blood magic, and also forgive herself for believing him and becoming an accomplice in the crime.

After becoming an apostate, Jovan sought ways to keep himself alive. Thayrn Loghain then hired him to poison Earl Eamon "for betraying Ferelden." Jovan was promised teyrn's protection in the event of the earl's death. To get closer to Earl, Jovan, at the request of Lady Isolde, Earl's wife, hired to work as a teacher for Eamon's son, Connor, who turned out to be a magician. Jovan fulfilled his part of the pact with teirn and poisoned the earl, but due to the intervention of the demon of Desire, which took possession of Connor, Eamon was able to survive. Jovan was captured and put in the dungeon of Earl's castle by order of Lady Isolde, confident that Jovan had summoned the demon, and Teirn Loghain, of course, quickly forgot about Maleficar.

The fate of Jovan is completely in the hands of the Gray Guardian - he can kill him, drive him away, or with his help destroy the demon Connor through the Shadow. The further fate of Jovan depends on his actions - if he escapes, he can be found on the road, fighting the creatures of darkness. Otherwise, he is either executed or turned into the Pacified One.

According to the creators of the game, Jovan was originally planned as a companion for the player, but lack of time forced them to cut back on this part of the game.

King Kaylan Teirin

The son of King Maric, after the death of his father, he became the new King. Two months after his coronation, he married Anora, daughter of Thayrn Loghain, Maric's advisor and best friend. He died in the Battle of Ostagar: he was literally crushed by the Ogre, who was later killed by Duncan. In the DLC "Return to Ostagar" there is an opportunity to bury Kailan with dignity, subject his body to fire, leave him hanging on a crucifix built by the spawn of darkness, or throw him to be devoured by wolves. There you can also collect his armor and get the weapon of his father - Maric's Blade.

Despite his royal origins, Kaylan is essentially a simple person, he loves to shirk his duties and spend time with ordinary soldiers or mess with mabari. In this he is very similar to Aleister, his half-brother, who also prefers a simple life to the crown. This later hopes to take advantage of Anora, who, being Kaylan's wife, practically ruled the state herself without his help.

Kaylan Teirin is an arrogant and impatient man, in many ways this is what ruined him. He contemptuously spoke of the creatures of darkness, thinking that the horde was just a few large gangs united into one army, but not Pestilence. Kaylan admired the Gray Wardens, raising their skills almost to the level of heaven, dreaming that the Battle of Ostagar would glorify him, as once the ancient kings, who also fought side by side with the Gray Wardens. Then he did not take into account the possibility of Loghain's betrayal, however, no one could have foreseen this, except for Loghain himself.

Kaylan refused to wait for reinforcements from the Orlesians and Redcliffe's army. Subsequently, it turns out that Kailan may have had some kind of feelings for the Empress of Orlais, moreover, mutual ones.

Kaylan is a fairly experienced warrior, he participated in the battle on an equal basis with his soldiers. In the battle at Ostagar, he fought with a two-handed blade, leaving his main weapon - Maric's blade - in a chest in the royal enclave, leaving the key to a trusted soldier.

Queen Anora

Kaylan Teirin's widow. After the death of her husband, she formally remains the ruler of Ferelden, although, in fact, her father Loghain McTeer seized power, who declared himself regent of the queen.

Anora is very smart and calculating, it was she who ruled the kingdom under King Kaylan, who almost completely retired from business in favor of his hobbies. According to Kaylan's correspondence, we can say that he did not feel or lost his feelings for Anora, and started an affair with the Empress of Orlais. Anora herself was criticized more than once, mainly for the fact that she never gave birth to an heir, despite her no longer girlish age. Many believe that she is barren, some even spread rumors that it is a curse for the fact that a commoner was elevated to the throne.

After the death of her husband, Anor does not support her father in many ways, although there is a possibility that it is not only that she does not like Loghain's policies, but also that he tried to take the throne away from her. Ultimately, if the Gray Warden does not support her candidacy as the autocratic queen, or at least the future wife of Alistair, she will again stand up for her father, believing that it is better to share the throne with him than to give it completely to Alistair. Also, if the Gray Warden is a man and heir to the Cousland family, then he can offer Anora to marry him. Thus, the Gray Warden would become a prince consort, and Alistair would get rid of the need to be made king. But Anora will refuse to marry Alistair or with the Gray Guard if Loghain is killed, not allowing him to become the Gray Guard.

Loghain McTeer

Counselor and father-in-law of King Kaylan. He is also Thayrne of Guarena. Thayrne is a very intelligent person and a great tactician. By origin - a commoner, but for the victory over Orlais and the expulsion of the Orlesian troops from Ferelden, he received an honorary title from the previous king of Ferelden - Maric. In the Battle of Ostagar, his task was to remain in ambush with a small army in order to unexpectedly strike the Darkspawn in the flank. The signal for the attack was supposed to be a signal fire lit on the Tower of Ishal. However, when this happened, Loghain orders to retreat, thus leaving King Kaylan and the Gray Wardens to be torn apart by the creatures of darkness. Despite the fact that many - including the closest associate of the protagonist, the Gray Guard Alistair - consider Loghain's act a betrayal, the teirn himself claims to the last that this was a forced measure to preserve the troops. This is confirmed by the writers of Bioware, but, nevertheless, there is no evidence in the game that Loghain did not intentionally leave the king to die. Returning to Denerim, he declared himself regent under Queen Anor, his daughter, which caused discontent among the Banns and Earls, who demanded that Loghain abdicate the throne. However, theirn refused to do so, plunging Ferelden into civil war in the face of the oncoming Blight. For the death of the king, he blamed the Gray Guardians (and, perhaps, even sincerely believed so) and announced a hunt for those of them that survived, including the heroes of the game. As the Gray Wardens began to make progress in gathering a combined force to fight the Blight, Earl Howe, with Loghain's permission, hired the Antivan Ravens, world renowned assassins from Antiva, to get rid of the hero.

The exact reason for Loghain's betrayal is not entirely clear; many factors could have influenced this. But at the head of all is his love for Ferelden, which ruined him. Loghain considers Kaylan to be a king unworthy of his kingdom. King Kailan appears as a young, glory-seeking youth, dreaming of epic battles "like in the old days." He constantly argues with Loghain in matters of strategy and tactics, and also rejects reasonable tactical combinations in favor of spectacular and pretentious ones. This endangers not only the king himself, but also the success of the war as a whole. Another reason for the conflict is Kaylan's desire to unite for the war with Orlais, and this is only a few decades after the de-occupation of Ferelden. Orlais is a powerful state with a good army, ready to provide its troops to Ferelden in the fight against the Blight. Kaylan believes that an alliance with Orlais is necessary, while Loghain, who is the hero of Ferelden's war of independence, considers the alliance with Orlais a betrayal of the country. In many ways, this hatred of Orlais blinded Loghain, teirn was ready to destroy the people of his state and give everything to the creatures of darkness, just not to let the Orlesians into their lands. After Kylan's death, Loghain immediately declared himself regent to his daughter, Queen Anora, and closed the way for the Orlesian troops, including the Gray Wardens.

In the "Return to Ostagar" add-on, in Kailan's chest, you can find his correspondence with the Empress of Orlais, from which it is concluded that Kaylan had a mutual attraction with her. Fuel is added to the fire by the fact that, according to rumors, Queen Anora suffers from infertility, as indicated to the king by his adviser and uncle Earl Eamon. He advises to part with her.

Loghain can be called not only a nationalist, but also a racist. He gave permission for the people of the Tevinter Empire to lead the elves out of the Elvenage of Denerim, thus allowing the slave trade in Free Ferelden. He himself justified this by the fact that Elphinage could not have been saved from Mora anyway, and the money from the slave trade would have gone to the benefit of the army.

Thus, Loghain himself believes that he is doing the right thing and his only desire is to save the country. Comments on this issue are given by the scriptwriters of the game. In addition, in the editor of game resources it is possible to read the comments of the developers in the dialogues and videos from the game.

Towards the end of the game, you can take Loghain into the squad, made him a Gray Guard, but then Alistair will leave the group, who does not want to forgive "the killer of Duncan and all the other Gray Guardians of Ferelden."

In The Stolen Throne, we learn that Loghain used to be a robber and his father is a farmer from Lottering who has lost his lands. Loghain also had an affair with Rowan, Maric's future wife, but he himself insisted that Rowan return to Maric for the good of the country.

Leliana

She used to be a bard in Orlais and, concurrently, a hired killer, but after the betrayal of her close friend and mentor (perhaps even his mistress), Marjoline moved to the Lothering Church. It helps you, motivating its actions by the fact that "the Creator himself gave her a sign." With Leliana on your team, you will always have an excellent relationship with the church, for example, upon seeing Leliana, the Reverend Mother can immediately, without unnecessary questions, give you Stan.

Leliana's mother is from Ferelden, so despite her life in Orlais, she considers herself a Ferelden. Her mother was a servant to a wealthy lady named Cecile, who brought them to Orlais. Leliana became an orphan early, but remained under the care of Lady Cecile, who raised her, gave her an education mainly consisting of singing and dancing. As she grew older, she fell under the influence of Marjoline, a bard, spy, and assassin. This is how Leliana learned her art and prowess of combat. During one of the missions, she learned that Marjoline was selling information about Orlais to Tevinter and Antiva. Fearing for her friend's life, Leliana gave her the documents defaming her. But soon the guards came for Leliana herself and accused of betrayal, referring to the very documents that Marjoline altered, inscribing Leliana's name instead of her name. Leliana was imprisoned and tortured. But she was able to escape and flee to Ferelden. There she became a novice of the Lothering Church. Seeing a dream about the approaching darkness and the blooming of an already dried rose bush, she took this for a sign from above and offered her services to the Gray Guardians. The church made her softer, but did not deprive her of fighting skills. Subsequently, she again had to face Marjoline and resolve their conflict forever.

In the second part of the game, she returns to Orlais and becomes an inquisitor, holding an answer only to the Most Holy One (a personality similar to the Pope). Hawke can meet her in Kirkwall, where she arrives to warn Reverend Mother Elfine of the possible danger due to an impending conflict between mages and templars. At the end of the game, it turns out that she is Cassandra Pendegast's partner and is looking for where the Protector of Kirkwall and the Hero of Ferelden have disappeared (if the Guardian survived).

Morrigan

Morrigan has a rather complex character. She appreciates actions leading to profit and strength, regardless of the consequences, for example, in a mission where the player has to choose between an army of golems and huge losses of human lives, or the destruction of a forge, she takes the side of Branca, or rather supports her, but beats sideways by side with you. Morrigan is a tough and purposeful person, her life credo is "the strongest survives," while she is not a supporter of senseless murders.

Morrigan has a very poor understanding of human psychology. So, she does not understand such a phenomenon as "love", she is very surprised that she has a friend - the Gray Guardian. She also warmly accepts gifts and says that she was never given a present.

Morrigan is the daughter of Flemeth, a legendary witch from the wilderness of Korkari. She is alien from the world, and only occasionally got out of the forest, therefore, she never had friends, and the company of her mother alone gave her a difficult character.

If the Gray Warden befriended Morrigan and brought her Flemeth's grimoires, she would offer the Warden a way to slay the Archdemon and survive. You just need to sleep with her the night before the battle with the Archdemon. If the Guardian is a woman, it will be necessary to persuade Alistair to sleep with Morrigan.

Ogren

A red-haired and red-bearded berserker dwarf who used to be in the warrior caste. After the departure of his wife, Branca, who went in search of the Forge of the Void, gets drunk and kills another warrior. Teig Orzamar, as well as the Diamond Halls, forbid him to carry weapons with him. But this punishment is the greatest shame for a skilled warrior.

Ogren tries to maintain the image of a "rock warrior", emotionless and emotionless. However, he does not succeed very well: for example, he explains the stingy tear by the fact that “the bee has bitten”, and when he wanted to ask the Guardian for help, he could not find a word for a long time. Ogren is always happy to have a drink in the company, but just caring and worrying about him causes him joy and sympathy for the Guardian. However, he never expresses this in direct words.

Ogren is a skilled warrior, a berserker. As he himself explained, berserkers are warriors who accumulate rage and release it during combat to shred nearby enemies. He can teach this to the Guardian (if he is a warrior), Aleister or Stan.

After the battle with the Archdemon, Ogren will be offered a place as a general in the army of people. However, Ogren remained himself and argued with Banny Tegan that he would drink a keg of brine.

In Dragon Age Origins: Awakening, Ogren appears during the defense of the Tower of Vigil against the spawn of darkness. If the Gray Warden is imported from the original game, then Ogren will happily greet an old friend. Later, he easily endures the rite of passage and becomes the Gray Warden. He helps the player throughout the game.

Ogren has a wife and child, whom he fled from to become the Gray Warden.

Subsequently, Ogren could become one of the finest Gray Wardens in Ferelden.

Stan

A Qunari warrior who sailed on ships with his squad on a special mission. Later, stopping at Lake Kalenhad, his entire squad is killed by the creatures of darkness, and his sword, which was made specially for his hand in Beresaad itself, is kidnapped by a marauder. He is later found by farmers from Lothering, but he, in a frenzy, learns that his sword is missing and is killing his family. The Reverend Mother locked him in a cage on the street without food or water, leaving him to fend for himself.

The Gray Warden releases Stan (by the way, this is not a name, but a title), and he joins him (although he can simply be kicked out). Stan wields a two-handed blade, although his "native" sword - a weapon forged from rare blue steel just under his arm - he lost during the battle on Lake Calenhad. If the Gray Warden finds the sword, Stan will be forever grateful to him.

From time to time Stan will share his own observations about Ferelden, as well as talk about the Qunari people.

Flemeth

A witch from the Wildlands of Korkari, about whom both the inhabitants of Ferelden and the barbarian tribes, the Hasinds, make up legends. There are so many legends and myths about her that no one even knows which of this is true, and which is a fiction and a fairy tale. He helps the Gray Guardians, explaining his help by his own fear of the Blight. He sends his daughter Morrigan with the Guardians as payment for the salvation. One of Leliana's tales tells how Flemeth became a witch from the Wild Lands: she took revenge on her husband Connabar for killing her lover. In anger, she became possessed by a powerful demon that destroyed Connabar and all of his people. The legend mentions Hayever Castle, which now belongs to the Cousland clan (it may be the Gray Warden - a noble person). Morrigan will tell this story differently, and later, in the DLS "Witch Hunt", will declare that Flemeth is not at all possessed and not even human. If you find a book with the secrets of Flemeth in the Tower of the Circle, and give it to Morrigan, then she will tell you what was written in the tome: the secret of Flemeth's immortality. It turns out that the legendary witch bore her daughters, raised them, raised them, and then killed them in order to move into their bodies with the help of magic. Upon learning of this, Morrigan will ask you to kill his mother. However, the protagonist can let go of the witch, who promised never to appear in Ferelden.

In the second part, Flemeth (by changing his appearance) rescues the Hawke family while fleeing Lattering. In return, she asks Hawk to deliver her amulet to the Dolly elves near Kirkwall, which he does a year later. Elves perform a ritual that Flemeth recreates. Apparently, Flemeth guessed that Morrigan would try to eliminate her and set in motion a plan to return. From her words, one can judge that Flemeth can exist in several bodies at the same time. The Dalish elves know Flemeth under the name Asha "bellanar" - "Woman of Many Years", but the Dalish Gray Warden won't remember this when he meets Flemeth.

Rendon Howe

Aristocrat, ward and main henchman of Loghain. Carves out the entire genus Cousland to take possession of their lands. If you play as the last Cousland, then you are the last survivor (with the exception of the older brother, who appears at the end of the game). Howe soon takes possession of Denerim, becoming his earl too. Differs in cruelty, love of torture and confidence in his righteousness (his last words, when he dies at the hands of a hero, are: "The Creator sees, I did not deserve this!").

Eamon Guerrin

Earl Redcliffe, who is poisoned by Jovan, but the Urn of the Holy Ashes is soon found, with the help of which he is cured. He is married to Lady Isolde, an Orlesian, from whom he has a son, Connor, who wields magic, and a brother, Tegan. Earl also had a sister who married Maric. After healing, he helps the Gray Guardians, as well as his nephew Alistair, whom he wants to put on the throne of Ferelden.

Sheila

Golem from DLC "Captive of Stone". Previously, she was a dwarf from the warrior caste, but during the time of Karidin, she sacrificed her soul so that he could create a golem out of her.

Sheila is strong, she has special abilities, and she also calls the protagonist by the name "it". If in the mission anvil of the void you kill Karidin, then she can leave your squad.

After spending a long time in a stationary state in the role of a statue, Sheila deeply hated pigeons and birds in general, because everyone knows what pigeons do with statues.

In the English version of the game, Shale is a neutral name, and the golem's deep voice makes everyone think of him as a man.

Andraste

A historical figure, for the Dragon Age setting, which is an analogue of both Christ and Jeanne d'Arc. In ancient times, all Thedas was ruled by the magisters - sorcerers of the Tevinter Empire. The fugitive slave Andraste received a vision from the Creator and united the wild tribes of the southern part of Thedas (this territory would later be called Ferelden) to lead them on a Sacred campaign against the Empire. The campaign was successful, and southern Thedas was freed from oppression. But Andraste herself was betrayed by her own husband, jealous of her power and honor, and given to the masters who betrayed her to the fire. At the last moment, the archon Tevinter Hessarian could not stand the torment of Andraste and pierced her with a sword, granting a quick death. The ashes of Andraste fell into the hands of some of the founders of the Church and are hidden in the mountains. Subsequently, Andraste became a great martyr, to whom almost all the prayers of the followers of the Church are addressed. Just like Christians in the real world, the followers of the Andraste cult have long been persecuted and few in number.

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening

Unlike the first part of the game, there are no romantic lines as such in the add-on, and it is almost pointless to drag out any relationship, since a lot of time was devoted to battles, and not to storylines.

Anders

A renegade mage whom the protagonist meets during the attack on the Tower of Vigilance. He joins the battle against the spawn of darkness, and after the victory he can be protected from the templars by accepting into the order of the Gray Wardens. He will survive the Initiation and join the squad. Anders is not his real name, but only a pseudonym indicating his origin - a magician from Anderfels. He got into the Circle already as a teenager, and therefore he could not get used to the order prevailing there and set the record for successful escapes from the Tower - seven times. Fortunately, he was never accused of using blood magic, and in general he is considered, although wayward, but useful - Anders's talents lie in the field of spiritual healing and elemental magic. This mage is wary of maleficars and blood magic. He does not want to study it, although if you teach him it, or if you yourself turn out to be such, then it's okay - Anders's attitude towards you will not worsen. Anders does not approve of the rebellious moods of many magicians and their ideas to rebel against the Church, but he himself hates the templars and derisively refers to the dogmas of the Church and Andraste herself.

Anders has several interests: jewelry, gold earrings, and cats, which Anders loves. He will tell you that in the Circle of Magicians he already had a cat named "Mr. Pushistius". The Templars and the First Sorcerer were allowed to take care of the cat, but soon a demon possessed him, the templars had to kill the little animal. Also, as a child, the magician dreamed of a tiger-knight named Sir Lancelap, who would tear the hated templars and pull Anders out of the tower (in Witch Hunt you can find drawings of little Anders). Subsequently, Anders will name a kitten after the knight from his dreams.

If in Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening leave him in the Tower of Vigil before going to Amaranthine, which they are about to attack, and then do not return to save the Tower, he will die from an arrow of the spawn of darkness that fell into his throat, but before that he will kill about a hundred enemies with magic.

Escapes from the order to Kirkwall, where he joins Hawke's squad. He is considered by default to be accepted into the Order of the Gray Wardens, and a deserter. Even if he is declared dead in the epilogue of Awakening, it will only affect a couple of dialogue with the cameo characters. Anders's personality also changes dramatically - he is far from being so cheerful and selfish, although he still loves cats and longs for Sir Lancelup, who was taken by the Guardians. This is due to the fact that Anders became a vessel for the spirit of Justice, under the influence of his anger transformed into Revenge. Even if you taught Anders blood magic in Awakening, in the second part of the game he will not know it, and he will also disapprove of dealing with demons and blood mages in general. In the course of the game, Anders turns out to be the main culprit of the ensuing uprising of the magicians.

Velanna

Like Anders, Velanna is an apostate mage, but this is because she is one of the Dalish elf clan. Velanna was a student of the Clan Keeper, and it is known that the elf keepers are able to control the plants and roots of trees, and the trees themselves in principle. Once, she did not want to follow her clan, opposing her teacher, then some of the elves followed her. Leading them to their goal, the apostate did not suspect that the creatures of darkness would kidnap her sister, and then cut the rest of them, scattering human weapons.

It was then that Velanna raged, starting to revive the trees in anger. She attacked the barbarian tribes, but soon a hero (heroine) arrives, who stops the guardian's apprentice.

Despite everything, Velanna is inherently very kind and sincere (for an elf character). She loves various memoirs, things belonging to the clans of the Dalish elves. She can also teach you the art of guardian magic by imparting her knowledge.

Mhairi (original Mhairi)

Her character was never revealed, since she dies almost at the very beginning of the game. We only learn about Mkhairi that she used to be in the service of the king (queen), handles sword and shield well, and also admires the Gray Wardens.

This warrior dies during the initiation rite.

Nathaniel Howe

Son of Earl Rendon Howe. When the hero becomes the commander of the Gray Wardens and the earl of Amarantine, Howe Jr. secretly infiltrates the fortress. Initially, he wants to kill the Guardian, thus avenging the death of his father and the expulsion of the family, but on the spot - perhaps because the Guardian has not yet arrived at the castle - he decides to do with the theft (from his point of view, the return to the hands of the rightful owners) of family values. But the guard of the castle grabs him and, despite desperate resistance (according to the guards, it took four people to twist Nathaniel) he was put in prison. The hero, as the new owner of the castle, needs to decide his fate: to execute him, release him in peace, or call him to the Gray Guardians. In the latter case, he joins the squad.

If you get the chance to travel through the dungeons of the castle, you will find many things that belonged to his family. Of course he will like them.

Ogren

In this part, you will also meet Ogren. Nothing happened to him, of course, except that he wanted to become a Gray Warden. Having gone through the beginning, you have a choice, whether to leave Ogren?

If the player imports his character from "Inception" into the module, Ogren behaves in accordance with the story set out in the module. However, his attitude towards the GG will be kept at the level of "neutral".

By the way, after the initiation, this merry fellow began to dream, and therefore it is even more fun to talk to him! As already mentioned, nothing has really changed in it.

Sigrun

Dwarf girl from the Legion of the Dead. She and her squad found a passage to one of the dwarven teig, which you will have to explore with her. In the course of the plot, we learn that Sigrun was a legionnaire scout that can survive the most powerful opponents and blows. Sigrun is rude, strong, but very kind, while she has a great sense of humor.

Justice

Going on a journey to the Dark Swamps, you will stumble upon an abandoned village. During the passage of the mission, you will be thrown into the Shadow, where this place is not affected at all: neither by time, nor by creatures. Exploring, you will soon make your way to the village, and there the Spirit of Justice awaits you. After you defeat the witch in the Shadow, Justice will fall into the body of a dead gray guard, because of which you actually went to the swamps. Having defeated the demon witch again, he will try to find his meaning in life, then he can join you.

Kristoff, or rather, Justice already owns the Magic of spirits, which you can actually learn, but only as a warrior. To improve relations with Justice, it is necessary to find things that belonged to Kristoff - he will gradually remember the fragments of the past experienced by the dead gray guard.

Dragon age 2

Hawk family

Protagonist (surname Hawke)

The protagonist of Dragon Age 2 is a human refugee from Lothering, a village completely destroyed by the darkspawn during the Blight in Ferelden. After escaping from his native village, where his (her) father died, he migrates with his family to Kirkwall, the City of Chains, which is part of the Free Marches, to the homeland of his mother Lyandra. To work off the payment for "entering Kirkwall", one is hired as a mercenary or as a smuggler. Within a year, he becomes a remarkable person in criminal circles, thanks to which he (she) is noticed by Varric, whose brother is organizing an expedition to the Deep Paths. After this expedition, Hawke turns out to be a rich man, at the expense of money and an aristocratic pedigree of his mother he gets out to the Upper City. Three years later, he takes an active part in protecting Kirkwall from the attack of the Qunari and elf defectors, which deserves the title of Protector. After that, he becomes a respected person, second in power after the knight-commander Meredith. Three years later, the Protector finds himself involved in a conflict between the magicians and the templars of Kirkwall, which flared up with unprecedented force through the fault of Anders. The defender has to support Meredith's Right of Destruction and exterminate all the magicians, or help the magicians, fight the templars. In the first case, the Defender will eventually be asked to become the governor in Kirkvol, otherwise, he will have to flee the city. In any case, after these events, the Circles of Magicians will begin to revolt throughout Thedas, and the Defender himself will disappear for one known reason.

He is the son (daughter) of Lyandra Hawke (Amell), older brother (sister) of Bethany and Carver.

Bethany Hawke

Renegade mage, twin sister of Carver Hawke, younger sister of Garrett / Marianne Hawk. Specializes in fire magic. If you choose the Mage specialization, she dies at the beginning of the game. Spends free time at Uncle Gamelin's house. A kind girl who takes pride in being a renegade. Loves his older brother (sister) very much.

She can become a Gray Guardian on an expedition to the Deep Paths (if Anders is in the party, otherwise she will die), but if you did not take her with you on an expedition, she will be taken to the Circle of Magicians.

Carver Hawke

Warrior, twin brother of Bethany Hawke, younger brother of Garrett / Marianne Hawke. Prefers two-handed swords. If you choose the specialization "Warrior" or "Rogue", dies at the beginning of the game. Spends free time at Uncle Gamelin's house. Carver has a bad temper, he often whines for one reason or another, and is rarely satisfied. He envies the talent of his brother (sister) and argues with him (her) in everything. In this regard, he has become a little closer to Varric, also a younger brother, who has to obey the elder, although Varric prefers to perceive his situation with irony.

He can become a Gray Guardian on an expedition to the Deep Paths (if Anders is in the party, otherwise he will die), but if you did not take him with you on an expedition, he will run away from home and become a templar.

Liandra Amell

Hawke, Bethany and Carver's mother. She is a noblewoman of Kirkwall and the main heiress of the House of Amell, but left the house and fled to Ferelden to marry the renegade magician Malcolm Hawke. The Amell family also had magicians.

Dies in the fourth year of his new life in Kirkwall at the hands of a mad blood magician, who collected zombies from the body parts of various women, reminiscent of his deceased beloved.

Companions

Varric Tetras

A land gnome of the Orzammar blacksmith caste. Hawke's friend or rival. Rogue, specialization: crossbowman. It is on behalf of Varric that the second part of Dragon Age is narrated. He rents a room in the Hangman Tavern. He considers the latter to be his home and cannot imagine his life without her.

He has a brother, Bartrand, with whom Varrick and Hawke set out on an expedition to the Deep Roads. As a result, Bartrand is possessed by a demon and forces him to lock his own brother and his friends in a forgotten teig. They manage to get out, but Varric loses trust in his brother forever.

Has a fanatical love for his crossbow, which he calls "Bianca" (a clear allusion to the game "Assassin's Creed II" - there was also a character who called his weapon "Bianca"). It is later revealed that this crossbow is unique. It was constructed by Varric's former comrade in an attempt to create an automatic crossbow. Bianca is the only working copy.

Aveline Wallen

A warrior girl specializing in sword and shield, she was in the ranks of Kaylan's troops destroyed at Ostagar. Templar Wesley's widow. It is possible that the legend of the first female warrior Aveline, told in Dragon Age by Leliana, or read in the Codex, became the prototype for Aveline. Lives in the barracks of the city guards.

At the start of the game, her templar husband, Wesley Wallen, becomes infected and asks to kill him before turning into a screamer. The player can do it himself or allow Aveline, but if he does it himself, then Aveline may be offended by him, but if you choose the phrase: "... Your husband is up to you to decide ...", then she will be grateful. In similar cases, also leave it to relatives or friends to decide (an exception is when Anders asks about Karl, advise him to kill him).

In Kirvola, Avelin quickly makes his way into the people, joining the city guard. With Hawke's support, she can find evidence of the city guard captain's betrayal and subsequently take his place. Also, not without Hawke's help, Aveline awkwardly, but will achieve the location of the guard Donnik and marry him.

Aveline has a very strong character, she does not like illegal actions of any kind and tries to suppress them harshly. But, on the other hand, she showed herself to be very shy and rather awkward while courting Donnik, if Hawke had not directly expressed her feelings to him, perhaps Aveline would have remained lonely.

Isabel

Rogue duelist from Rivain, pirate, former captain of a pirate ship. It is also found in the first part, where it can train the protagonist in the specialization of a duelist. In battle, prefers two daggers. Spends his free time drinking alcohol at the Hangman.

Isabella is a freedom-loving and dissolute person. She has a weakness for handsome and strong men who do not have to persuade her for a long time to “close relationships”. She found herself in Kirkwall by an unfortunate accident. She was ordered to steal the holy book of the Qunari, the same ones chased her ship, but the battle and the storm that came at the wrong time destroyed the ships of Isabella and the Qunari. As a result, it was Isabella who became responsible for the appearance of the Qunari in the city. It is one of the possible love interests for a man and a woman.

Fenris

An elf slave of the Tevinter master and mage Danarius, who has lost his memory and is physically altered by the effects of lyrium. A warrior specializing in two-handed weapons.

Fenris's real name is Leto. He voluntarily agreed to become part of Danarius' experiment with lyrium, in return receiving freedom from slavery for his mother and sister Varanya. Danarius implanted lyrium into Fenris' skin, creating a kind of vein tattoos, through which lyrium flows instead of blood. Fenris claims that due to the unbearable pain that accompanied the ritual, he lost the memory of his former life; however, his memory may have been erased on purpose to rule out a possible rebellion by the slave. Lyrium strengthened his physical capabilities, at the same time giving new, magical ones - Fenris knows how to make his body partially immaterial, which allows him to dodge blows in battle and kill people with his bare hands (which he demonstrates several times during the game, ripping out the hearts of his opponents). So the elf became Danarius' slave bodyguard. One day Danarius, due to the fact that there was not enough space on the ship, had to leave Fenris to die on an island captured by the Qunari. There the elf was found by the warriors of the fog, free people who do not obey anyone's orders. With them, Fenris first learned what freedom is, but soon Danarius found him and ordered to kill all the warriors, which Fenris did, unable to psychologically resist the master's order. But it was at this moment that life turned upside down: he realized that he no longer wanted to be a slave, and fled. The escape was a success primarily because Danarius did not expect such an act from a previously absolutely obedient slave. Time after time he sent assassins who were supposed to return his "escaped property", but Fenris each time dealt with them and fled to another city to hide from his pursuers. During one of these battles, Fenris meets Hawke and finds his first friend since his freedom. With Hawke's help, he deals with Danarius's servants, and then with himself. However, Hawke can also deny protection to Fenris and give it to Danarius. The elf, broken by such betrayal, will surrender without resistance, and later Hawk will receive a letter from Danarius with gratitude for the return of the slave and a message that Fenris has again been erased from his memory and he has become subdued again.

Due to the loss of memory, psychologically Fenris is in the age of a teenager. He is withdrawn, brooding, and has difficulty controlling rage. Hates magicians, believing that their gift is a curse, and there is no sacrifice that the magician would not make for the sake of power. Most of all, Fenris wants to be free, however, even having escaped from the owner, remains a slave to his own hatred, and involuntarily seeks someone whose orders he can carry out.

Lives in the Upper Town in the former Danarius mansion. Is a possible love interest for a woman and for a man.

Anders

The renegade mage, as well as the Gray Warden from the first official addon to Dragon Age. Specializes in healing magic. Fled from Ferelden, not wanting to deal with the Guardians anymore. Made a deal with Justice and became its repository. He explains this by the fact that he wanted a good spirit to have a normal body, not a corpse and not captured by force, but a body that voluntarily accepted it. Unfortunately, Anders did not notice that Justice, already from the time of working with the Hero of Ferelden, began to show a desire for revenge. Mingling with the feelings of Anders himself, Justice absorbed all Anders' hatred for the templars and in general for the position of magicians and turned into a demon of Revenge (somewhat reminiscent of the story of Zarathos from "The Spirit of Vengeance").

He lives in the slums of Kirkwall, where he maintains an underground clinic and does not hide the fact that he is a magician. Shows great dissatisfaction with Meredith's policies, wanting to change the lives of the magicians. As a result, it is he who starts the war between the magicians and the templars, destroying the Church and killing the Reverend Mother Kirkwall.

Anders has changed quite a bit since his adventures with the Hero of Ferelden. Instead of a frivolous and caustic magician looking at girls, he became a vengeful killer. Perhaps the reason is Revenge, because of which Anders sometimes cannot control himself and is ready to go even to inexplicable murders. Anders really misses Sir Lancelup, his kitten, which the Hero gave him, but which, by order of the Guardians, he had to give to a friend.

Anders is one of the possible love interests for a man and a woman.

Merrill

Dalish exile, blood mage, who is a temporary companion of the Dalish elf Guard from the first part of the game. Uses blood magic and sees nothing wrong with it. But it was blood magic that made her an outcast in her own clan. She was to become the next guardian of her clan, inheriting the title from Maretari. But Merril took a path that her fellow tribesmen did not like. She herself considers herself a faithful follower of the heritage of her ancestors. She dreams of regaining the lost knowledge of the elves, first of all, by restoring the mirror, which was used for negotiations at a distance. To cleanse him, she became a blood mage and asked the demon for help. As a result, this demon will try to take over her body, but Maretari has time to seal it in her own body so that Merril had to kill her. This can lead to the complete destruction of the Merril clan or her eternal exile.

Merrill is a little frivolous, does not take hints at all and takes all jokes seriously. She lives in the elfinage of Kirkwall, where she proved to be a very bad mistress. She is a possible love interest for a man and a woman.

Sebastian Vel

Sebastian Vel(DLC "The Exiled Prince") - the future ruler of the neighboring principality of Starkhaven. Rogue, bow master.

Sebastian is initially the youngest son of the ruling clan, whose hopes for the throne were minimal. He did not fight for the unrealizable and took a vow in the Church. But he soon learned that his entire family had been brutally murdered at the request of unknown persons. He asks the mercenaries to kill the clan that committed the murder, and Hawk takes over. Subsequently, Hawke further helps Val find the family who hired the killers, and also to find out that they were victims of the ambitious desires of the mother of a noble family and the demon of Desire.

Spends free time at the Church. Is a romantic interest for a Hawk woman.

If he refuses to execute Anders for destroying the church and killing innocents, he leaves for Starkhaven, promising to raise an army and return to show Anders "real justice."

Other characters

Knight Commander Meredith- the head of the templars of Kirkwall, fiercely hates magic and tries with all his might to oppress the magicians. As a result, she is captured by the same demon as Bartrand, which drives her crazy.

Orsino- First Sorcerer of the Circle of Mages in the city of Kirkwall. Elf. He is not afraid to oppose Meredith, he is not conflicted, but due to harassment, Meredith begins to rebel. In the end, he forces himself to use blood magic to resurrect his beloved students.

Flemeth- a powerful witch from the first part. The second part explains how she was able to escape, although the Hero killed her in the first part at the request of Morrigan.

Cassandra Pendegast- Female Inquisitor, plays a narrative role, like Varric.

Arishok- the leader of the Qunari who were shipwrecked near Kirkwall and founded their own ghetto. He considers the entire city and its inhabitants unworthy and rotten due to base desires, in need of cleaning. Piously follows the teachings of Kun, the central philosophy of the Qunari. "Arishok" is a military title, not a name, but for the Qunari it is the same thing. One of the game's trailers shows the battle between Arishok and Hawke.

Bartrand Tetras- Varric's older brother, organizing an expedition to the Deep Roads. Goes insane over a demon in a lyrium idol. As a result, he may be killed by his brother.

Gamelin Amell- Hawke's maternal uncle. Sold the Amell estate in Kirkwall, losing everything at cards. Spends a lot of time at the Rose Blossom brothel.

Dragon age

On the one hand, it is a sin not to cope with this, on the other hand, passing the game for the first time (and even the second), it is quite possible to miss some important detail.

After the introductory video, in which Duncan's characteristic voice tells what the problem is, a character generation window appears:

The default hero is human, male, Caucasian.

After choosing a gender, race, class (warrior, magician and "horns" - in this case it was translated as "robber"; gnomes cannot be magicians, non-magicians cannot then learn to conjure at all), acceptable backstories are highlighted in an amount from one to two. When choosing, the hero dresses in a suit appropriate to the chosen one (armor of three types and a mantle for magicians).

Then comes the window for setting the appearance, choosing a name and voice:

Appearance can be left by default, choose one of the ready-made ("set of settings"), or long and reverently construct your own version based on the data. "Default faces" come in a set, one for each gender for each race, for elves and gnomes of different backgrounds, "default faces" differ from each other only by the presence or absence of a tattoo.

Here, for example, is a female commoner dwarf:

Unlike Oblivion, in which you see your physiognomy exactly a couple of times after generating a character, unless you specifically turn the camera around and admire, here the hero's face is an important element of the game. It appears in different videos in close-up, and sometimes even the expressions change on it.

So it's worth making it the way you want to see the hero. Handsome, ugly, young or old. This traditionally does not affect the passage.

All the characters, judging by their backstories, are young people (and not people), up to thirty years old by our count. If you make an old face, there will be a kind of dissonance. In addition, body models do not change with age.

Among the options are faces with Mongoloid and Negroid features. Among NPC-people, dark-skinned people are rare, among elves - a little more often, among gnomes - even a little more often. Mongoloids, if any, are very few. Such a face will stand out.

Female characters can boast of makeup: the color of the eyelids, lips, and the presence of a blush. Male characters (other than elves) may have stubble and beards (beards look a little unnatural, unfortunately). For example, the default noble gnome is:

Curiously, if a character has a beard, he cannot change the "Mouth" and "Jaw and Cheeks" parameters. The presence of bristles allows this.

Also, different sets of tattoos are available for different cultures. For people and city elves (elf mages are also "urban") - one (and there are practically no NPCs of this culture with tattoos in the game), for Dalish elves - another (on the contrary, almost all Dalish faces are covered with tattoos), for common dwarves ( untouchable) - the third, "stigma" (each untouchable has a stigma, everyone who has a stigma - untouchable or equated to it), for noble gnomes - the fourth (they are very rare).

Technically, a commoner gnome may not have a stigma, but this again will bring some dissonance to the passage, the untouchable is often referred to as "branded".

The heroes' responses in dialogues are not voiced. Each type of voice gives only its own small set of remarks for the character's statements with some command of the player to the hero: activate a door or a chest, hide, attack ... phrases are quite funny, like "I want a trophy, I want a trophy", but their set is small and little sense from them.

The surname of the heroes is given unchanged, depending on the background (and in the case of the magician - and on the race), but you can come up with the name yourself or leave it by default.

Here is a table of default first and last names:

The names Kusland and Edukan will be remembered often in the game, but the rest will not be mentioned even once.

When setting up the "avatar" the hero can make those grimaces, but keep in mind that you will have to admire the whole game on it.

After choosing the appearance, you can go to the next window, and in which you want to scatter the characteristics:

Unlike, for example, TES games, gender does not affect the starting characteristics. Prehistory as such - too. Only race and class.

The choice of characteristics is a deeply personal matter, and for hardcore fans it is a very responsible one. To help a beginner - pop-up tips "who needs what". Changing your mind during the generation process, you can go back and redo everything at any time.

Then comes the skill window:

Character generation in Dragon Age

Character generation in Dragon Age

Two of them are already given by default, and now they depend on both the class and the history:

Kusland Warrior - 2 combat training; Kusland the robber - combat training and preparation of poisons (a basic skill is also needed to use poisons);

Mages of both races receive the skill of a herbalist and battle tactics (for the main character, their need, alas, is not paramount);

City elf warrior - influence (only the main character's skill, persuasion) and combat training; City Elf Rogue - Influencing and preparing poisons;

Dalish elf warrior - combat training and survival (specific skill, for an amateur); Dalish Elf Rogue - Survival and Poison Preparation;

Edukan Warrior - 2 combat training; Edukan the robber - combat training and preparation of poisons (similar to Kusland, in general);

Throwing warrior receives combat training and the skill of a thief (ill-conceived, but capable of being useful); Throwing is the skill of a thief and the skill of preparing poisons.

A simple pattern is visible: warriors are given combat training, robbers are given poisons.

And finally, the skill window:

Character generation in Dragon Age

Character generation in Dragon Age

This is where the choice of specialization takes place. Two-handed sword, sword and shield, weapons in both hands, bow and crossbow. For magicians, magic.

Most regrettably, none of the options provide for the "originally given" skill of the two-handed sword. A warrior who decides to choose this path of development receives one skill from another branch of development as a supplement. Flaw!

Only two options are "favored" by the shield-makers: Kusland-warrior and Edukan-warrior. They receive a "shield bump" from a machine gun.

Mages receive a magic arrow and are completely free in their choice of specialization.

The Dalish elf warrior is implied as an archer - he is given the "chilling shot" skill.

The city elf and the dwarf commoner warriors are conceived as wielders of two blades. They are given a "two-handed swing with a weapon."

All "rogs" are free to choose - they are given the "dirty fight" skill from the rogue branch, and they can easily become both an archer and a fighter with two blades.

After this window, you are prompted to click on the "play" button. After that, you cannot change the starting parameters without mods. This feature is only available in the Awakening addon.
