Detective John Tanner will reappear on TV screens and monitors - Ubisoft Reflections is working on the car action game Driver: San Francisco, which aims to bring back the popular game series to her roots.

The game is set in modern-day San Francisco, however, the authors, according to them, were inspired by car chases from films and television series of the 1970s. Tanner, who miraculously survived in Istanbul in the Driv3r finale, is again pursuing crime boss Charles Jericho. During the chase, the hero gets into an accident and ends up in the hospital.
Tanner lies in a coma, but does not realize it, because his consciousness is still in San Francisco. The hero's goal is the same - to find and neutralize Jericho, who is planning a large-scale muck. John is surprised to discover a new ability: he knows how to move from one car to another, displacing the mind of its driver for a while. Passengers sitting in a "stolen" car usually do not understand that a substitution has occurred, and react differently to Tanner's foolishness.
A new game mechanic dubbed "Shift" allowed Ubisoft Reflections to remove pedestrian episodes from the game and focus on spectacular pursuits. As you complete missions (here they are called "tests"), the effect of a unique ability expands; closer to the final, Tanner will be able to "jump" into any car in San Francisco. True, this legalized cheat has a limitation. If the car in which John is sitting takes a certain amount of damage, an invisible hand will throw him out of someone else's consciousness and make him look for another car.
Despite the fantastic element reminiscent of the British TV series Life on Mars, Driver: San Francisco holds on to reality.
