An overview of LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. May the instruction be with you. Review of LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Lego Star Wars 7 all characters

After the appearance on the big screen of the fugitive stormtrooper Finn and the scavenger Ray, there was no doubt that they would soon be molded in plastic. After all, over the past ten years, almost all the heroes of a galaxy far, far away have acquired their own LEGO version, and the events of both trilogies have been played out using plastic parts. So why should The Force Awakens become an exception?

Mount Lukasovoe

When Anakin Skywalker "restored the balance of the Force," so to speak, nearly every Jedi in the galaxy was killed. It is not surprising that in the old trilogy, as many as three people are fighting on lightsabers: the elderly Obi-Wan, young Luke and his father, broken by fate, Darth Vader (spoiler, did you forget to pick up your pension at the post office today?). Even Darth Sidious, the emperor of the galaxy, did not deign to draw his sword, although the new trilogy showed that he is a solid swordsman.

The desert sun is baking almost for real on the arid planet of Tatu ... that is, on Jakka, of course.

Thirty years have passed since the explosion of the second Death Star. Both the Sith and the Jedi are endangered species. The gloomy bearded Luke disappeared among the stars, and the only person wielding a lightsaber is the prodigal son of the Solos couple (oh, spoiler again!) Kylo Ren. So it's mostly about blasters.

But how do you balance the mechanics so that the battles remain interesting? After all, the shootings in LEGO games have always been very conditional: you just hit one button at a time until everyone is "disassembled" into small details.

However, ten years after the start of the franchise, LEGO shooting has finally found a worthy embodiment. Here you run around the level, collect parts and kick stormtroopers in the ass. But then suddenly there are too many of them, and from around the corner a big man with a machine gun (flamethrower, rocket launcher, turret) is walking menacingly.

How to be? Pressing the fire button even harder and faster? No matter how it is! The heroes bend down to avoid being hit by fire and hide behind comfortable cover. Now everyone with a blaster in a holster can aim and shoot at enemy faces. The form unexpectedly recalls the entire array of fighters from the third person and with shelters, which gave rise to a fuss about “LEGO is turning into Call of Duty!”.

Not Gears of War, of course, but quite fun!

Square kung fu

But the game itself did not lose anything from this, on the contrary - a genre with such a simple content needs to be juggled with mechanics. We do not require innovation, but diversity is needed. To knock out the details, torturing the same button for hours, even a child will get bored one day. Cover fights are challenging. If only because in such a battle it is easy to die: leaning out from behind the barricade for a long time, your character will quickly collect a bunch of blaster shots or even snatch it from the sniper.

Death in LEGO, however, never meant much - you think, a couple of the pieces are gone. But nevertheless, it makes you tense up, and from time to time - even apply a simple trick: to overturn a tower with a machine gun, bypass the sniper from the side, bring down overlappings on enemy positions. Nicely dilutes the usual relaxing gameplay.

The stormtrooper who yells "TRAITOR!" Is the coolest man in the entire movie. And in the game it will not be so easy to defeat him!

In a more relaxed environment, you will also have to think a little. In all parts of LEGO, buildings played an important role, erected from special pieces that jump with impatience. Now, from each such set, you can build not one structure, but two or even three. But there are not enough blocks for everything at once, you have to choose.

This variability becomes the basis of many puzzles. For example, you have built a certain bandura, and when it fulfills its purpose, you break it down with peace of mind and construct something else from the released blocks in order to move on. This, of course, does not reach the heights of real quests, but in such a conservative series, even such tiny innovations refresh the gameplay a lot.

Ray can and loves to climb sheer walls - another nice new feature.

Anyway The force Awakens surprisingly often throws up a variety of situations. A couple of times our heroes will be thrown into a desperate air battle (yes, X-Wing's in the atmosphere, Chewie, I know). At times they are forced to run away from something invincible.

But more often, of course, they turn a small-scale episode from a film into twenty minutes of pure gameplay... For example, where Ray finds the Skywalkers' lightsaber, a whole level in the spirit of Lara Croft awaits us, with puzzles and acrobatics. To those who have watched the film, this may seem strained, but the events of the seventh episode on whole game just not enough. And such episodes are played just as well as other levels, so what's the difference?

Far, distant box

The developers clearly felt much more confident when huge universes, full-fledged settings with a bunch of alternatives, where there are hundreds of heroes, fell into their caring paws. But The Force Awakens poses an inevitable limitation: only those whose faces (or helmets) appeared on the screen in the cinema could get into the game. And the characters in The Force Awakens are not that many, especially by the standards of LEGO games.

On the screen, Snoke looked, frankly, sad. In the game, he was ennobled.

But Traveler's Tales are shooting sparrows who made interactive LEGOs their craft. Therefore, the deficit actors they liquidated. Albeit by means of tricks.

So, almost every random mercenary or third-rate pilot of the Resistance has become a full-fledged character. The game also begins thirty years before the events of The Force Awakens, with the Battle of Endor, so here is a set of classic heroes: Darth Vader, the Emperor, Admiral Akbar, carefully warning of the trap.

Finally, Traveler's Tales came up with a set of missions between episodes - after all, a lot has happened in thirty years. And the rather poor plot of "The Force Awakens" received the necessary addition.

As such, there is no longer a sandbox in the game - well, you can't connect several planets into one common location! However, this did not damage the levels: they are still packed with secrets so tightly that three playthroughs by different characters will not be enough to find everything.

Travelers 'Tales' trademark humor has also survived, even if it was supplanted by the jokes from the film - which probably took longer than the script to polish. Of course, Kylo Ren will throw a couple of tantrums, and Han Solo will once again show off the charm of Harrison Ford. Humor, as before, is mostly visual and is embedded in the very structure of the game. Finn, if you haven't controlled him for a couple of seconds, jumps up cowardly and seems to bite his nails. Speeder Ray sports a "BB on board" sticker, like a car with a toddler in the cabin. The Force Awakens also has enough references to popular culture - so that the dads do not get bored while their child is mastering the game.

Kylo Ren's painful love for his grandfather was, as expected, turned into a funny obsession. Vader on the surfboard seems to be overkill.

But here and there the developers had to retreat.

I can't know in what rush The Force Awakens was made, but circumstantial evidence is striking. Reviews on Steam are full of complaints about a frozen black screen, then a white one, or crashes. I ran into another problem - when playing together on the same keyboard, The Force Awakens loves to fall to the desktop, erasing the save. This is repaired by connecting a gamepad for a second player, but not everyone is ready for this. But the controller will save your fingers - the control buttons are traditionally scattered around. Episodes with gunfights for the player on the keyboard will turn into a sophisticated torture, and let the Power of your partner with a gamepad throw you, otherwise you will go crazy.

* * *

The very first LEGO epic game from Traveler's Tales was released right before the completion of the new trilogy in 2005. Now the circle is complete. For eleven years of a very stormy life (how many titles have been converted into true faith!) open world(now he, however, is gone again). The new game is also slowly developing the series, albeit in tiny steps.
