Little nightmares why the sixth ate the nome. Little Nightmares are nightmares for the adult audience. How to defeat the last boss "Mistress of the Womb" in Little Nightmares

Little Nightmares by Swedish Tarsier Studios combines two design ideas. On the one hand, the game is an adventure in a magical but dark dollhouse, which looks like a prison, then like hellish kitchen. On the other, there is a picture of a terrifying feast. All heroes, even the protagonist, are subject to extreme hunger. And if other inhabitants of the Womb (this is the name of the place of action) quench their thirst in unthinkable and disgusting ways, then the girl in a yellow cloak, she is the Sixth, is happy both with raw meat and with an accidentally found pie.

If you describe the gameplay of Little Nightmares, then you need only two words: "hide" and "run". Nothing else is required from the player. Tarsier Studios did not provide the game with any complex puzzles and riddles. Everything here is done so that the Sixth does not get stuck for a long time in one place. Some "rooms" are completely empty: they do not have any objects, interesting backdrops or objects creating an atmosphere. They do not carry any semantic load and play the role of a corridor in which you just need to run from one door to another. Why such locations are needed is not clear.

Little Nightmares truly reveals the human essence. Even a little girl is capable of cruel things. And this inner anger cannot be defeated, you just have to run and hide

Solving puzzles is far from the most important part of the game. Much more important is the scenery in which Six runs and hides from dangers, what creatures it encounters and what activities it catches. Little Nightmares is hardly an indie horror, although perhaps that is the most accurate definition of it. She does not scare, but makes the player feel as uncomfortable as possible. To get to the doorknob, a miniature girl will have to drag a chair towards her with difficulty. And it's not worth talking about battles with monsters - in any situation, an open battle will end in defeat for the player. Even leeches, which are not that big, are terrifying, and you have to run from them without looking back. The tension is created by the leveling tools for preparing people and stylish background elements.

Someone was here before the Sixth. And there are many of them.

No one speaks in the Womb. And why, it is unlikely that local residents can keep up a conversation, and Six simply has no one to talk to. The game tells its story without words, using the language of images, sounds and moods. Tarsier Studios have created fertile ground for the various theories and interpretations of Little Nightmares. Here is the very name of the girl in the raincoat - Sixth, and her appearance, different from the other "children" of this place, and many other things will allow everyone to understand the plot in their own way. The developers were able to tell a coherent, philosophical and current story through the atmosphere and environment.

All puzzles in the game click like nuts

Tarsier is a tiny independent studio located in the Swedish city of Malmö. Over its almost ten-year history, she managed to work on add-ons for the first and second, over, as well as a re-release for PS4.

Needless to say, many were surprised, to put it mildly, when, in May 2014, the authors of pretty and good-natured arcades announced a dark game about a little girl surrounded by monsters, tentatively titled Hunger. After some time, everyone safely forgot about this project, until in August 2016 she became interested in it. Namco... The game got a publisher, and the name was changed to.

Tells the story of a starving little girl named Six who is unlucky enough to find herself in a gruesome, surreal underwater complex. The womb - the so-called complex - is something like an elite resort for fat and ugly creatures who while away their leisure time eating dishes from animal meat, fish and human flesh. Therefore, it is not surprising that the poor fellow immediately grasps the opportunity to get out of the Womb, as soon as she has one. It’s a pity that she doesn’t know into which hidden corners of her own consciousness this dangerous misadventure will lead.

It seems that the game world itself opposes the presence of the Sixth, trying to drive the unfortunate into a state of panic horror. Some worms swarm in the shadows with an eerie squelch, water drips from the ceiling, and a disgusting grinding and loud monotonous breathing of something large and clearly unfriendly can be heard from behind the walls. Each location is intimidating in its own way, be it a library with dusty bookshelves, or a kitchen littered with meat and severed fish heads.

Some rooms are bathed in an unpleasant light from lamps that have turned yellow over time, while others have to be illuminated by the tiny flame of the small lighter Six carries in the pocket of her raincoat. I must say, sometimes you don't want the light to burn at all: it allows you to see the bloody prints of someone's hands on the walls or traces of a fierce struggle.

An ever-increasing sense of anxiety and terror increases and musical accompaniment, which literally screams about the inevitability of a painful death. But only it warns of danger, gaining precious seconds for the Sixth, necessary for salvation.

And you will have to run and hide often. The monsters are huge and the girl has no chance to somehow resist them. You have to rely on a trick: to distract them by dropping clay pots, turn on the dusty TV in the next room at full volume, or just sit in the shade, holding your breath, and hope that the scab will just pass by. It is worth losing vigilance or hesitating for a second, the grotesque creature will immediately overtake the Sixth, sending her back to the nearest conservation. This is a kind of cat and mouse game.

One of the key advantages lies in the fact that she can tell everything about herself without further ado. The game world itself, terrible creatures inhabiting it and even musical arrangement without any cutscenes or dialogues, they tell an interesting and intriguing story. The players will have to guess and understand many details of the plot themselves, since the game is in no hurry to share details either at the beginning or even at its very end. And after end credits you will definitely have a lot of questions.

At the beginning of the game, it seems that you are in some strange fairy tale, where there can be no bloody cruelty. In gloomy rooms there are toys and a heroine called Six you need to find a way out of this terrible place. Moving from location to location Six collides with different monsters. These are two twin brothers "butchers" with huge cleavers who are clearly not going to make friends. And a long-handed hatter who constantly intends to grab Six and cocoon it. And the main enemy in Little nightmares is mysterious "geisha", which controls the "Womb" and secretly watches everything that happens.

In a strange way, the little heroine got into an eerie place, something like a submarine called “ Womb“, Where no one heard anything about goodness and pity. Only cruelty, hunger, gluttony and death reign here. She got to the lowest levels and gradually she has to get to the top in order to stay alive. Getting to a feast of pig-like monsters who devour everything that can be eaten, the girl must quietly make her way to the exit from this terrible place. Not immediately the player will notice that in a dimly lit room, near the monsters, everything is filled with food, and the food is on a huge table, along which the girl in a yellow hoodie will have to make her way. Later, it becomes clear that the monsters can easily confuse Six with food on the table and, noticing the girl, they will chase her. Story line the game never ceases to amaze throughout the entire game. For example, at the beginning, the main character appears before us as a small defenseless girl in a yellow raincoat, she is afraid of everything, little creatures "mushrooms" are running around her, which need to be hugged. But then Six, feeling hungry, begins to eat dead rats, and then generally eats a little "mushroom" who trusted her and offered her normal food. As they progress, Six meets the children who are also in the "Womb." It is later revealed that the children are in terrible danger and are being used as food. And the terrible long-armed "hatter" catches them and wraps them in cocoons.

Throughout the game review Little Nightmares the developers hint that the life of a little girl in a yellow hood is constantly in danger and the chances of salvation are less and less, but she did not get to the "Womb" by accident. Therefore, it is only up to the player whether Six survives in the eerie environment of the nightmare and defeats the "geisha" or is eaten. The developers came up with the ending of the game is clearly not standard, it makes you completely rethink the whole plot.

Although the game at the beginning looks like a terrible fairy tale, later it turns into a nightmare and by no means Little nightmares not designed for children. Therefore, it is recommended for fans of "something new" from dark horror films.

Video for the game (official trailer):

Developers from the Swedish studio Tarsier have already established themselves as creators of deep and atmospheric indie platformers (and at times creepy). And now, in front of us is their new project called Little Nightmares. It is a side-scrolling platformer, but three-dimensional at the same time. There are similarities with the previous works of the studio and even more, with the projects of colleagues, for example, game Among the Sleep. But, despite this, this world looks original enough to want to plunge into it. As is often the case, there is a "touch" of Tim Burton's style here, although this is denied by the design team.

In fact, the players here have to experience a mixture of horror and emotion, solve puzzles, hide and overcome obstacles from room to room. This is in a general sense. But let's take a closer look at all the components of the game.

Plot

Main character Little games Nightmares is a little girl in a yellow raincoat with the strange name Six. Why Sixth and why in a raincoat is a mystery, which may become clearer at the end (here, as in the case of Among the Sleep, you should not throw spoilers, because the whole point is in a mystery). The girl is small in every sense. After getting out of the suitcase in which she was locked, the Sixth finds herself in the world of the Womb. Here all the usual objects and furniture are of a huge size. The player feels really small, and the camera angles only contribute to this. But if only that. The world itself is full of hideous monsters and creepy corners. To the ominous music, here goosebumps go. For the Sixth, the Womb is a prison from which one must get out by any means. However, the local inhabitants do not play the role of a special guard, but live their own lives and occupations (they prepare food, collect terrible collections, do everyday tasks). However, meeting with any of them face to face (with the exception of a pair of neutral ones), threatens the Sixth death or more difficult imprisonment. You must always move stealthily. On tiptoe.

Again, when compared with Among the Sleep (it was reviewed this winter), although the idea is similar, the differences are significant. Yes, this is the same embodied world of children's nightmares as there. But here everything is less surreal. This is not just the world through the eyes of a two-year-old child, when in general you understand that you are in some kind of illusion, and nightmares are caused only by perception. Here it seems that really real, disgusting monsters and terrible situations actually take place (although, who knows ... who knows ... riddles will be revealed by the end). The central character here is not some standardized kid, but in her own way a charismatic and touching girl. Yes, we will not see her face and we will not hear dialogues (they are not here), but all the same, a personality is felt behind this figure. And this person is pretty fearless. She is more afraid of hunger than of the hideous monsters she meets on the way. Her yellow raincoat, movements and mannerisms are made in 5. The character is bright and memorable in itself, without any conversations or biographies. By the way, there are no notes, plot items and other things here either. The player will reveal all the mysteries of this universe from the events taking place.

Bottom line: the world is strange, mysterious, scary. But the intrigue and desire to find out the truth "- What kind of place is this", will force the player to spend several hours behind it. As usual, in such projects, the game is short, about 3 - 4 hours. If you don’t get stuck on complex puzzles, it’s hardly possible.

Graphics

Little Nightmares' strongest point is her visual style. Everything is done gloomily, but without excesses. There is a place for some beauty, and individual monsters can be considered not only disgusting, but also funny in their own way. It is simply impossible to refrain from comparisons with Tim Burton, no matter how the developers protested. It is this kind of mysticism, grotesque, humor that is here. In some rooms, focus is very well placed on the image, where the overall background can be blurred. There are very dark rooms. Fortunately, the lighter in the pocket of the Sixth will always save. Most memorable is the contrast between the gloomy, dark surroundings and the girl's bright yellow raincoat. The effect of a ray of light in a dark world. Always evokes subconscious metaphors.

Bottom line: stylish, high quality, interesting. It's like watching a horror cartoon. The designers have perfectly preserved this theme throughout.

Little Nightmares gameplay

The gameplay is a girl of gloomy rooms with solving puzzles, hidden passage through monsters, overcoming physical obstacles. As for the enemies, there is almost always full stealth. There can be no question of any use of force. Hide and run. The puzzles are varied and often thought provoking. For example, you need to climb into the opening at the top of the wall, but there are no ladders or ropes. But there is a large meat grinder and, if, hanging on the lever, twist it, it produces sausages, they hang along the wall in a bundle. But two sausages are not enough and you need to drag large pieces of meat from the previous room in order to make a sausage rope for lifting. Hard? This is one of the simplest examples. Although, for fans of such platformers, these puzzles will seem on the contrary - too easy. But the lack of even small tips is a serious problem. Would be. Fortunately, not in the age of the ubiquitous internet.

Conclusion

Just a nice and atmospheric indie platformer. Fascinates with frightening beauty and mystery. The theme of children's nightmares is perfectly disclosed, more diverse than in similar games. It is recommended for all fans to tickle their nerves (not really much), to train their logic and ingenuity. There are no complaints about the implementation of the idea.

Six is a vulnerable creature, like a kitten from. She doesn’t know how to do anything and doesn’t learn anything - just know it jumps, grabs the ledges, squats in corners and inquisitively probes objects. lovingly scattered cubes, dolls and even a toy train to the premises. No less frequent are rolls of toilet paper, stained refrigerators, neat photographs with framed toilets and tiles with streaks of rust - grotesque signs of a cult of consumption.

The game relies solely on visual language, the opening and ending are open - you can't get away from the glorified trend. True, if you forgive the abruptness (the creation of the Danes gives answers to at least some questions), then - a carnival of half-revelations and dirty tricks, similar to those that delay the intrigue of the creators of the series "The Walking Dead".

Six must overcome five zones, darting through the guts of ventilation, bumping into shy gnomes in caps and rats and reviving kerosene lamps and candles with a lighter. On the lower tiers, the Guardian, who looks after the children-prisoners, does not need light - this long-handed monster with a grin from ear to ear is blind and reacts to the rustling and creaking of floorboards. It frightens with uterine howl and monstrous limbs dragging along the floor - the only time the Swedes guessed right with the fears from my childhood. Surely there is something original for you too.

The actions of the "thumbnail" are simple: they ran to the switch, if the grate-door was energized, they found the key if they saw the lock. Sometimes you have to throw an object in order to reach the button, - the TV, which was turned on by throwing the can, caused particular bewilderment. Don't do this at home.

The only "puzzle with a twist", worthy of showing off on one pedestal with riddles from and, will meet you in the kitchen. Here are two grimy chefs who shy away from hygiene. The sedentary lifestyle of giants boils down to scratching their three chins, sluggish washing of industrial mountains of plates (although boar guests generally prefer to pull everything into their mouths with their bare hands directly from an unwashed countertop) and crumbling meat, sometimes live, - mummy bags arrive here on a hook conveyor from the previous location, where the guys are watched by an ugly Guardian. If the cooks catch the girl, they will immediately inflict reprisals - for example, throw a saucepan into the fiery mouth.

Despite the duration of 4-5 hours (even without the arcade hardening, which will require races on the tables from gentlemen with weak muscles and thick wallets), it does not seem compact. An exhaustive adventure in my opinion. You are unlikely to go through the second time, and even to help such a heroine ... I personally will not raise my hands, because the finale is more discouraging than in. Let the gnomes play!

* * *

It was announced in the spring of 2014, even before, so you can't call it a Swedish clone of a Danish hit. To some extent, an original "platformer" with puzzles, not devoid of flaws and charm - so it will be more accurate.
