Alduin's Wall

Hidden from prying eyes in the depths of the province of Skyrim, stands the Temple of Heavenly Abode, the last refuge of the Imperial Blades, an elite order of knights formed by Emperor Tiber Septim, whose main task was to serve the imperial Septim dynasty. In the depths of the temple there is an ancient bas-relief - Alduin's Wall, named after the terrible dragon carved on it. The bas-relief depicts the history of dragons and an ancient prophecy that sheds light on one of the greatest legends of Tamriel - the story of Alduin.

Devastation

Thousands of years ago, vanished long before the beginning of written history in countless centuries, dragons devastated the lands, waging war against people, forcing them to flee in fear before their power. People could not oppose such a force. Even those of the people who went over to the side of the dragons and began to worship them were still afraid of them. In the first of three cases, we see Alduin, the "Eater of Worlds". This magnificent and terrible creature must one day return to devour Tamriel. And that day has come.

Defeat Alduin

This enigmatic image tells how Alduin fell before the ingenuity and courage of people, but nothing more is known about this event. This piece of the puzzle is vital to understand for anyone with the ability to defeat the dragons once more. Who are these people capable of defeating Alduin? How can they drive this terrible beast out of the world? Perhaps the dragonborn who appears will find out the answers to these questions.

Staff of Chaos

Aludin's wall of prophecy depicts several events that foreshadowed his return after being banished from the world. The first event was the rupture of the Staff of Chaos, a case known to us from TES: Arena. The staff was an incredibly powerful relic, capable of opening gates to other worlds and erasing existing ones. Imperial Battlemage Jagar Tharn used the Staff of Chaos to imprison Emperor Uriel Septim VII in the Oblivion plane, after which he broke the staff into several pieces so that it would never be used against him. The Hero of the Arena put all the pieces back together and defeated Jagar Tarn.

Numidium

The return of Numidium is the second part of the prophecy that foreshadowed the return of Alduin. The huge copper golem known as the Numidium was reassembled during TES II: Daggerfall. The non-linear choices that determined who would rule the Numidium led to the Warp of the West, a strange phenomenon that, paradoxically, allowed all events to occur at the same time, leading to a dramatic change in the world.

Red Mountain

This mountain, also known as Vvardenfell, was given a central role in the events of TES III: Morrowind. In its bowels, a semi-divine entity, Dagoth Ur, built its citadel until a hero appeared on the mountain and destroyed it.

Oblivion Gate

The death of Emperor Uriel Septim VII at the beginning of TES IV: Oblivion also contributed to Alduin's return. A previously unknown heir to the throne named Martin Septim, with the help of the hero of Oblivion, was able to re-close the gates of Oblivion, but was killed in the process. The end of the Septim Dynasty also marked the end of the Third Era.

Sons of Skyrim

With the beginning of the Fourth Era, the sons of Skyrim "shed their blood", as the Blade named Esbern described this event. This horrific event finally confirmed Alduin's return. TES V: Skyrim starts from the moment the main king of Skyrim was killed. Many of the inhabitants of the northern country are pushing to leave the crumbling Empire, which has been in decline for 200 years since the death of the last representative of the Septim dynasty. However, other citizens of Skyrim insist that the Empire is still worth fighting for. Conflict between the parties seems inevitable.

Throat of the World

A huge mountain towering above the tundra and forests of Skyrim. Here, at the top of the Throat of the World, is High Hrothgar, home of the Greybreeds, who play a key role in the history of the Dragonborn. It takes a climb of 7,000 steps to reach their remote home. Here, on the wall of Aludin, we see a mountain cleft, which symbolizes the split in Skyrim at the start of the game.

Hope

The prophecy depicted on Alduin's Wall is terrible, but it depicts a spark of hope. The only person with the same incredible power as the dragons themselves can rise up against Alduin and save the world. The Akaviri armor worn by the Blades in this image comes from another continent beyond Tamriel. Blades bow before the Dragonborn. They protected the Dragonborn family line, waiting for the moment when the Dragonborn would rise to fight the returned Alduin. 200 years have passed since the closing of the Oblivion Gate, the line of Dragonborn heirs was lost with the last of the Septims. By the beginning of Skyrim, a lone prisoner suddenly finds out that he can have such a power ...

Dragons appear in Skyrim at the same time as the player. No one living has met them before, and their appearance anywhere causes panic and commotion.

Dragons are aggressive towards all the inhabitants of Skyrim. Be it the player, NPCs, or other monsters. Only in isolated cases, dragons are neutral to the player.

Story

During the passage of the main plot, the player learns the history of the dragons, who they are, why they disappeared, and why they are now returning again. Many have not yet completed the storyline, and in order not to spoil your experience of the game, we will leave this section for later.

Behavior

Most often, dragons will appear near the player in flight. Having chosen a target, the dragon circles over it, attacking with fire or cold from the air. Sometimes he can sit down himself - on the ground, or on a rock, or on the roof of a house.

But in order to put him on the ground for sure, you need to either inflict significant (about 2/3 hp) damage on him, or hit him with the “Dragonbreaker” shout. After that, the dragon will sit on the ground, and will no longer be able to take off (in the case of a scream, it will not take off until the dragon slayer acts on it).

While on the ground, dragons can still attack with their fire or ice breaths, and if the enemy is too close, bite him.

If a player has little health left in melee with a dragon, then with a high chance the dragon will grab him with his jaws, help him to the sides, and then throw him out like rag doll. Such a scene for the player means 100% death.

In the case of a dragon call, it does not appear immediately, but after a few seconds. If there is no enemy near you, then he will fly in circles. If an enemy appears (a red dot on the beacon), he will start attacking him from the air, or sit down on the ground and engage in close combat.

A successful dragon summoning will only happen if you are outdoors.

The "weakest" representatives of the dragon race. This is the first type of dragon the player encounters in their travels. They have a dark gray color. They attack with fire and very rarely with cold. It has three types of color: brown, white and bronze. They can spawn at any player level.

Blood Dragon

Appear from the level: 10 *

You can recognize the bloody dragon from afar by its wide tail. Skin color: gray-green. Attacks are both fire and ice. A little stronger and tenacious of their younger relatives.

* An exception is the blood dragon near Robber's Bay - it is always there.

Ice Dragon

Appear from the level: 20

They are distinguished by a light gray skin color, and an abundance of spikes on the dorsal part of the body. They are roughly equal in strength to regular dragons, but due to the fact that their frost attacks slow the target and damage stamina, they are more difficult to deal with.

Elder Dragon

Appear from the level: 23

They stand out among others with orange-red skin, with black spots. Attacks are both fire and ice. Very durable and strong. Little is known about them, because. it is rare that anyone survives a meeting with them.

ancient dragon

Appear from the level: 40

It is distinguished by a more massive body, scales with a red-brown tint, and a slight extension at the end of the tail.

Having reached level 32, I strongly recommend carrying elixirs with resistance to fire and cold. Because if you meet an ancient dragon without any resistance bonuses, it will be very difficult to deal with it. Very tenacious, they hit very hard both with elemental attacks and in close combat.

Revered Dragon

Appear from the level: 59

A rare type of dragon appears only in the Dawnguard expansion. Its main feature is that it can swim underwater.

legendary dragon

Appear from the level: 78

Considered the strongest dragon in the expansion. He is the owner of unique eyes, resembling four eyes in one eye socket.

Bone Dragon

Appear from the level: -

A unique type of dragon that can only be found in the Labyrinthian, on the instructions of Winterhold. They don't fly, they don't have a soul.

Nominal

Alduin

Primordial Dragon. The oldest and most powerful. According to rumors, he participated in the creation of this world, and now he has come to destroy it. But it is to him that we owe salvation from execution.

Owns souls, can resurrect dragons, instilling souls in them, and devour the souls of dead people.

The first dragon we meet in the game.

Paarthurnax

Son of Akatosh and younger brother of Alduin, leader of the Greybeards. He lives in the Throat of the World.

Odawin

It is the right hand of Alduin, and faithfully serves him. But the dragonborn will be able to persuade him to his side, and it is Odawin who will help kill Alduin, and it is him that the player can call on the battlefield with a special cry available at the end of the main story.

Mirmulnir

If you immediately take on the main plot, then Milmurnir is the second dragon that you will meet in the game, near Whiterun. And the first dragon you fight.

Saloknir

When passing the main storyline, you, using the example of Saloknir, will see how Alduin brings dragons back to life. After he comes back to life, you will need to fight him right away.

Dragons are a universal problem for all Skyrim players, and some of them handle the challenge of fighting much better than others. This guide to dragons in Skyrim will teach you what successful players do to bring them down, even at higher difficulties. You will find dragon fighting strategies, helpful tips, which will help you meet and kill one of these reptiles even on Legendary difficulty.

Dragons appear at many points in Skyrim's main quest, and you're more likely to encounter them as the game progresses, especially as your character levels up. If you're looking for dragons, you can quickly travel to open areas by jumping to different locations until one spawns. There are also numerous Dragon Lords where dragons guard the walls of words. If you see a dragon in the distance, it can be distracted by simply approaching and entering its combat range. It's very difficult to sneak past one of them given their massive sight range, so it's practically guaranteed that it will spot you and start attacking.

Some dragons are essentially creatures that hunt from a distance until you get close enough or attack them directly. This can be frustrating for melee players, so it's recommended to use a ranged damage source, at least until you get a specific shout by completing the main quest.

Dragons land in flat open areas, but they only do so at random, as long as you don't take away their health. An early damage source such as a bow, atronach flame (spell) or a destruction magic spell can help lower their health and summon the AI to the ground. This is especially frustrating for pure melee characters who don't have a ranged attack source. In general, you can take a bow, but do not pump skill points on it.

Dragon types and their weaknesses

Dragons in Skyrim are divided into five types: Normal Dragon (level 10), Blood Dragon (20), Ice Dragon (30), Elder (40) and Ancient Dragons (50). Skyrim's first DLC, Dawnguard adds two new varieties for higher level players: Revered - level 60+ and Legendary 75+. Higher level dragon types have stronger breath and melee attacks, armor, and more.

You can tell a Dragon's weakness by the type of breath it blows out, be it fire or frost. Revered (fire) and Ice dragons are the only types that have a fixed breath, while any other can have one of these two elements. Dragon's Weakness is the opposite element, and using it deals 25% additional damage. Dragons resist 50% damage from attacks of the same element, so it's important that you don't waste magic on opposing spells rather than exploiting the Dragon's weakness. Impact damage affects all dragons equally. Ranged and melee fighters take note: enchanted weapons do base damage plus additional elemental damage, so using a flaming ax against a fire dragon will still be respectable.

Bone dragons only appear as part of quests and are not randomly encountered.

close combat
Melee fighters are naturally at a disadvantage when fighting a flying lizard that can spew fire or frost hundreds of feet away. The only way to ensure the Dragon lands is to use the Dragonrend Shout found while completing the Main Quest. Since you won't have it for a while, you'll need magic or a bow to help you lower his health while flying. They will sometimes land to engage in close combat, and most likely when critically wounded - this will be your moment to punish him and chop him down for firewood.

Sword and shield is the way to go so you can block those attacks that can't be avoided at close range. Naturally, with two-handed weapons and enough specialization, you can use power attacks and quickly kill them when they are vulnerable, but it's worth noting that their melee attacks are very strong, along with breathing, and without good resistance and equipment, it will be very tight.

Spell Damage

Mages also need to have some archery skills as they will need mana to kill the dragon in the early stages. Summoned creatures are usually not very useful against the dragon due to their low life, while followers like Lydia Housecarl can directly tank the dragon while you are attacking it.

Given all this information, archers have a big advantage against the Dragons of Skyrim. They tend to have less trouble using the terrain to their advantage, and the ranged weapon bonuses from perks are already there by default. The only advice I can give is to use your best Dragon Arrows. When the dragon is vulnerable and at mid-level, don't worry about drawing your bow fully. Aim to fire arrows at the creature quickly, as the durability strength only affects the range of the weapon, not the damage.

Getting help from NPCs

If you're having trouble killing the Dragon, you can bring it to civilization where the guards can distract it and damage it. Avoid going to areas with a lot of enemies, who are more likely to want to kill you, not the dragon. If you just can't win, you can always lower the difficulty level of the game to reduce the damage you take while increasing your damage. Switch the difficulty back when you're done and no one will know about it.

Dragon Arsenal

Aside from health and magic potions, you'll want to replenish your resources in a tough dragon fight, a few more tools come to mind:

  • Fire Resistance Potion
  • Frost Resistance Potion
  • Engagement jewelry - Rings and necklaces. It's easy to get the variety of resistances available to you and they can be replaced in combat.
  • Arrows - Save good arrows for Dragons, Centurions, Frost Trolls, and other tough enemies.
  • Dragonrend - This shout causes a dragon to land and you will receive it automatically during the main quest.
  • Marked for Death - This shout reduces enemy armor and drains life.

Victory: Dragon Souls and Loot

All normal dragons have dragon bones. If you intend to become a tank, don't sell them, rather save them in a safe place for later. Dragons also drop gear and weapons, though a little less frequently. My favorite unlock location for storing dragon bones and ores is Shack Meeko, though there are plenty of safe zones you can use - in general, chests of drawers, tables, and cabinets won't respawn.

Defeating dragons will result in your Dovahkiin absorbing the dragon's soul. They are only used to unlock shouts once you have found them on the wall. In the end, you will have too many dragon souls. However, there are many words that will expand your arsenal of shouts.

Traveling through the ancient ruins in Skyrim or passing story missions you've probably encountered dragon priests more than once. They represent strong opponents that have awakened from their tombs along with dragons. If you manage to kill one of these priests, then you will receive a mask that has original name and charms.

There are ten such masks in total. and one of them can be obtained only after you collect the rest.

Unfortunately, not everyone knows where to find them, and therefore in this article we will tell about the exact location of the Skyrim dragon priest masks.

Volsung mask:

Find one of the eight masks called Volsung can be found in the ruins of Volskigge. These ruins are located in the southwestern side of Fort Hragstad and north of the Forest Stronghold.

To get mask you must complete all the ruin complexes, defeat the main draugr and reach the Peak, the highest section of the mountain.

After studying the word of power "Swift Dash", the priest Volsung will wake up behind the wall, getting out of a small tomb. At low levels, defeating Volsung is quite difficult, so try to hide behind the pillars while shooting at him with your bow.

After the victory, approach the ashes and take his mask. Wearing a Volsung mask will increase your carrying capacity by 20 units, and the cost of goods in the store will become 20% cheaper. Also, you will be able to breathe underwater and thus easily explore any depth.

Wokun mask:

Vokun's mask is located in the High Gate Ruins. and again with the dragon priest of the same name. To find the ruins, travel to Morthal and follow the coast to the north. Almost on the very edge of Skyrim near the ocean there will be a huge complex of Nordic ruins, which is the High Gate Ruins.

After going inside, you will meet a girl named Anska, who is looking for a scroll in these ruins. By agreeing to help, the Scroll for Anska quest will begin, at the end of which you will fight with the priest Vokun.

The Mask of Wokun will cost you 20% less mana to cast Alteration, Illusion, and Affliction spells.

Krosis mask:

A priest named Krosis resides in a dragon lair called Two-Headed Peak. Finding this lair will be difficult, so it's best to take one of the quests with a mark to your place.

There are two quests leading to Double-Headed Peak, these are "Dragon Reward" and "In Search of the Dragon".

Your best bet is to choose the Dragon Bounty quest, which you can get from any jarl, innkeeper, or guard.

One of these tasks will lead you to the peak, it is located on the top of the southern mountain between Whiterun and Windhelm.

When you get to the right place, you will have to fight the dragon and the priest at the same time, and without good preparation it will be difficult to do this. As a result, defeating Krosis, you can take the mask, which increases Alchemy, Lockpicking, and Archery by 20 percent.

Otar mask:

To search for the mask, head to the city of Markarth, and from there go north until you find the Nordic ruins of Ragnvald. At the end, you must fight Otar the Mad, from whose body you can pick up the mask we need. Wearing the Otar mask will increase your resistance to electricity, fire, and cold by 30 percent.

Mask Valtum:

After taking Otar, do not go far from Markarth, as next to him you can find another mask called Hevnorak. To do this, head east from Markarth until you reach the Nordic Tomb of Valthum.

Upon entering Valthum, you will encounter a spirit named Valdar who will give you secondary quest"Evil slumbers." After completing all the instructions of Valdar, you can awaken Hevnorak and fight him for the staff and the mask we need.

The resulting mask of Hevnorak gives you complete immunity to any poisons and diseases.

Ragot mask:

To get the mask of Ragoth you will have to go through the long caverns of Forelhost and fight the priest. But before that, you must find Forelhost located on a mountain southeast of the Riften settlement. Just before entering Forelhost, you will meet Captain Valmir, who will ask you to find Ragot's mask.

As a result, the mask will remain with you, and after reading the letter taken from the body of Valmir, it turns out that he was a Thalmor spy. Wearing a Ragot mask increases your stamina by 70 points.

Nakrin mask:

But to get a mask Nakrin you will have to go through a significant amount of the main story. In the mission "House of the World Eater", right in front of the entrance to the portal to Sovngarde, the Dragon Priest Nakrin will block your path. After killing him, be sure to take the mask, otherwise you will never be able to return to it.

When equipped, the Nakrin mask grants +50 points to magicka, and also reduces the mana cost of using destruction and restoration spells by 50%.

Morokea mask:

You need to look for the Morokea mask only after you have collected all the possible masks in Skyrim (with the exception of the wooden mask).

To get this mask, go to the College of Winterhold and start completing their key tasks, joining the organization along the way. Almost at the very end of the College story, you will receive the Staff of Magnus quest, in which you need to go to the ruins of Labyrinthian.

At the very end of the location, you will encounter the Dragon Priest Morokei. To defeat Morokei, you must kill two enslaved magicians and thereby break the protective barrier. After defeating Morokei, take away the mask of the same name from him, which increases the speed of magicka regeneration by 100%.

Wooden mask and Konarik:

At the very end you must find the wooden mask, which will take you to the past for the last one. There is a wooden mask opposite the entrance to the outer courtyard of the Labyrinthian in the Sanctuary of Bromunar. Right in the hands of the slain orc lies a wooden mask, wearing which you will be transported to the past.

Next you will see the altar, in which you need to put all eight masks (wooden mask is not needed). After that, a ninth mask called Konarik will appear, restoring health in a critical situation and occasionally summoning a dragon priest.

Don't forget to pick up all the other masks, otherwise you will lose them forever.

Summing up:

Now you know skyrim dragon priest masks location. Also if you have official addition Dragonborn, then you can find four more masks: Miraak, Zakrisosh, Dukan, Azidal.

Good luck finding the dragon priest masks.!
