Tomb Raider: Underworld (2008) PC Russian version. Tomb Raider: Underworld (2008) PC Russian version of Tomb raider body mods

Tomb Raider: Underworld is a 2008 multiplatform game that introduces gamers to the new adventures of the famous Lara Croft in a familiar style. This part is already the fourteenth game in the extended series, which, given the constant popularity, cannot but surprise. According to the plot, the game continues the two previous parts.

Description

This time, Lara learns that the mighty hammer of the god Thor is not a myth or fiction, but a very real artifact. She goes in search of him, and in the course of her adventures she stumbles upon a terrible force that can destroy the whole world. Having become involved in the events associated with the possible beginning of Ragnarok, Lara is obliged to take the path of saving humanity from total destruction.

Traveling the world, the heroine will visit many different lands, and unforgettable adventures and trials await her in each location. Game levels copy real terrain and recreated with stunning detail. There are other characters in the game, many of whom have already met before.

Peculiarities

Another game project about the brave protagonist Lara Croft finds something to surprise her player with. Among the significant features are the following:

  • stunning realism;
  • many interactive objects in the game world;
  • new opportunities in shooting and in hand-to-hand combat;
  • updated healing system for the heroine;
  • vehicle disguised as a motorcycle;
  • well-developed graphic component.

Exploration of the world, reckless battles and many secrets, will draw the gamer into game process headlong for hours. Those who like to unlock additional rewards and test themselves in the process of obtaining sophisticated achievements will be able to enjoy their time.

A small instruction on how to change Lara's clothes, or rather, about repainting standard clothes. To do this, we need the Texmod program to copy textures from the game and some kind of graphics editor, ideally Photoshop, but not necessarily, it all depends on the complexity of the changes made to the texture.

The good thing about Texmod is that it doesn't change anything in the game itself, but simply loads our textures instead of the standard ones. So if something goes wrong, then you simply will not see your textures on the object, their place will be taken by the standard ones. The only drawback in all this is the need to constantly launch the game through TexMod, but you quickly get used to it, since the program is tiny and starts instantly.

On some game resource I found Texmod (download) in the same archive there is an instruction for its installation. Skins from inet perfectly dressed on the model, but the textures were not extracted from the game, Texmod simply did not start in the game.

Editing the registry manually along this path helped (Windows 7)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Crystal Dynamics \ Tomb Raider \ Graphics and there changed the values in RenderAPI from 0 to 9.

Now, actually about how to pull textures out of the game. Run Texmod.exe, click on the yellow folder icon and specify the path to the game launch file (TombRaider.exe).

Go to the Logging Mode tab.

1. Set or uncheck the checkboxes so that it is the same as in the picture below.

2. The Output Format drop-down list allows you to select the format for saving textures.

3. The Log with drop-down list sets the key for extracting textures in the game itself.

4. In the Output Folder point, specify the path to the folder into which the textures will be saved (it is better to avoid Cyrillic in the path to the folder).

After everything is set up, press Run, the game will start.

Now pressing the (+) (-) keys on the numeric keyboard will iterate over the textures loaded in this moment in Game. They are displayed in the upper left corner of the screen and at the same time they are highlighted in green on the object itself in the 3D world.

After finding the desired texture, press the save key (which was specified in the Texmod settings), I have it F12, thus saving all the necessary textures, after which you can close the game and proceed to editing the textures themselves in the editor.

It should be remembered that there are a lot of textures and they are made under different settings the quality of the game. This means that if you play at medium quality settings, then you need to pull out textures from these settings. At the time of copying, you should not change the game quality settings, since some textures may be mixed with others, unless of course you set yourself such a goal (pull out textures from all game settings) It is better, of course, to save and edit the highest quality texture (large), and if the need to resave it at a lower resolution for weak game settings.

Open the folder into which the textures were added and we see our files, there is also a text Log file (TeXmod.log) that Texmod created, do not delete it, it will still come in handy when packing our textures back into a TPF file.

The game has a lot of textures responsible for appearance T-shirts, but these five in my opinion most affect the final result. In total, I pulled out 7 textures, two of them are the same and differ only in resolution, I don’t know why they are repeated, I didn’t seem to change the quality of the game in the settings. I tried to change only one, but when moving to another level, Lara put on a standard T-shirt, so she decided to redraw all the textures that she found at once (that is, edit one, save, change the resolution in it and save it as another).

Open the texture in any graphics editor and change it at your discretion. I tried to make rags out of a T-shirt, I didn't want to mess with it for a very long time, so I just sketched several layers over the main texture, added holes and shadows to some. As a result, something like this began to look like a T-shirt on the way out of Photoshop after half an hour of fiddling with it, of course it doesn't look very much like wear and tear, it's more like an acid attack, but it's already a little more pleasing to the eye. :-)

I don't understand anything about 3D modeling, but in my opinion this texture is responsible for the pseudo-volume, so in it I filled in the background color those places where the shirt is torn and the body is visible so that the folds of the fabric do not pass onto the body. By the way, if you overlay a picture without bloody spots, then mask the torn spots from the reinforcement, otherwise these folds will be visible on a new and smooth T-shirt.

These two, as I understand it, are responsible for the texture of the fabric, that is, they project the relief of the threads on the surface of the shirt. Therefore, in the gray I filled the alpha channel with black, and filled the green with the main color (just like the spots in the photo above).

I could have stopped at this, but since I made the undershirt blue, I had to tint the straps on the mud textures as well. These textures do not have to be edited completely and thoroughly, as they are semi-transparent. But if the color of your main T-shirt is light or even white, then it makes sense to correct the colors on this texture or change its transparency (alpha channel).

Now we load the textures into the game, but first they need to be packed into a TPF file.

Run Texmod again, specify the location of the boot file (TombRaider.exe). This time, go to the Package Build tab.

1. In the Definition File item, specify the location of the same text file (TexMod.log). If you suddenly deleted one or more textures, then open this file with notepad and erase the lines related to the deleted files.

2. In the Creator Name and Comment fields, enter a name and comment (optional). Then click Build.

This window will appear, in which you need to specify a name for the file to be saved (we avoid Cyrillic in the file name) as well as specify the path, it is better to save it in the same place where the game's boot file and Texmod itself are.

Depending on the number of textures, the power of the computer, etc. the program will think a little and display this message Success! 7 Textures added. (bottom left)

Well, the TR_Blue file with the TPF extension will appear in the game folder, in fact, this is the "archiver" with our modified textures.

It remains to point Texmod to our archive with textures and start the game.

Run Texmod again, specify the location of the boot file (TombRaider.exe).

This time, we remain on the open Package Mode tab.

1. Click on the small yellow folder icon in the middle and specify the path to the created TR_Blue.tpf file.

2. The name of the file appears in the left window Package Name, select it with one click and click Run.

As a result, the game will start and if everything is done correctly, then Lara will be dressed in the skin we created, and she will look a little sexier. Of course, this is all drawn and is somewhat similar to that for the kitchen, but it doesn't matter, the main thing is that we now know how to repaint textures in the game.

Thus, you can create different costumes for Lara, save them to TPF files and operate them during the game launch.

Here you can clearly see how the mud texture lay on top of the torn T-shirt, partially restoring the torn parts of the fabric, but since I left the color of the top T-shirt gray, this does not really spoil the picture. Therefore, you need to take this property into account, since if you edit only the main texture, without affecting the mud, it may turn out that in a certain moment game, the top of your colored jersey will be gray and dirty.

After passing through the waterfall, the mud texture partially disappears and Lara becomes cleaner and more beautiful :-)

A fragment of the video in which Lara is wearing a self-made skin. Unfortunately, the video slows down very terribly, because my computer is very weak to play the game and write video at the same time.

If you do not imitate discontinuities, then most of what is described above about editing the texture can be skipped altogether. Then it becomes even easier to change Lara's skin, since you will not need to fiddle with layers in Photoshop, change the transparency in the alpha channels, take into account the play of light and shadow, etc. etc. Just put any pictures you like along the contours of the T-shirt (the main texture) and at the end we get such cute T-shirts. By the way, if you add inscriptions to the T-shirt, then those of them that will be superimposed on Lara in front will need to be mirrored horizontally.

The developers foresaw the wear of Lara's clothes in the course of the plot, so the texture constantly changes during the game, because of this, it fell off several times for me. I had to look for another version of it by TexMod again, redo it and add its next modification to the TPF archive. In total, the main texture of the jersey changes in the game three or four times, I can't say for sure, since I played the game and threw it on the shelf. So if you make a universal skin for all quality levels, you will have to re-save each of its modifications four times. As you can see, it's not all that difficult, it's just a lot and tedious, if you wish, you can repaint Lara's pants, objects, the interior, and indeed any texture in the game.
