If you think that the team is simply re-creating Liberty City in the world of the fifth Auto Theft, then you are deeply mistaken. They do not create a city from the game assets present in GTA V. They literally transfer real map from GTA IV as a neighbor for Los Santos... Liberty City should be located next to with a GTA card V on a separate island. So, yes - you have to get there either by air or by sea. However, this is not a problem.
You might think that the task is not that difficult. After all, GTA IV and GTA V are built on the same engine, right? But think about this: the release of GTA IV took place back in 2008, and the release of GTA V in 2013, that is, between these games there is a line of five whole years.
Rockstar Games hasn't stood still all these years, improved its creation and, of course, changed the file format for GTA V. This is the whole difficulty. The main job that OpenIV enthusiasts do is convert GTA files IV for compatibility with GTA V. This task requires modders to have the deepest knowledge of their business, which they have.
It is also interesting that the OpenIV team will not receive any benefit for such a titanic work, i.e. they work for free. On this occasion, they stated that the most important thing for them is that their program is used. great amount people around the world, and for creative people this is the main thing.
As you may know, Rockstar Games in most cases supports the development of all kinds of modifications for their games, as this can extend the life of their projects and even attract an additional audience. However, such a "transfer" of game assets to another game is a new thing.
The OpenIV team claims that in fact they do not violate any intellectual property rights, since to use the modification, players will still have to purchase copies of GTA IV and GTA V. The Liberty City in GTA V mod will connect the worlds of these two games and that's it.
However, in April of this year, something happened related to such a transfer of the card. Another team of modders under the name Team White was engaged in transferring the Red Dead Redemption map to the game world of the same GTA V. But it all ended very badly. Work on the mod was discontinued after Take Two contacted the modders and asked to "shut down the shop." It is hoped that the same situation will not happen with the OpenIV team.
Earlier this year, the team promised to release Liberty City in GTA V this spring, but, unfortunately, they had to postpone the release of the mod for an unknown period. Now we just have to wait for news from the guys from OpenIV and hope that their idea will come true.
