A group of friends go to Bangkok to party, "annealing" on the dance floors of local nightclubs, pouring tons of tequila into themselves, what could be better? A blind jump with a parachute, which turns into a nightmare for the company of young people. This is a typical story for the film industry, but not typical for games, for the first time in the series, the developers abandoned their own tradition of "the main character is a former warrior", now it is an ordinary American major, in fact, like his friends who come to the island as tourists.

An attempt at skydiving turns out to be unsuccessful: friends are captured by local pirates, who put the prisoners in cages and are already looking for potential clients to sell them. In the very first minutes, when trying to escape from the camp, the pirates kill one of their friends - the brother of the protagonist Jason, Grant. And the local pirate boss, Vaas, lets Jason go, saying that if I don't kill you, the jungle will do it, quoting this moment with a phrase from the notorious movie "Run Forrest, Run!" ... Escape to Jason still succeeds, he later joins the local "rebels" - Rakyat, and begins his way of "warrior" in order to avenge Vaasa for the death of his brother and save the surviving friends. Actually, this is the plot of the plot, but we will return to it later.

The most surprising phenomenon in the course of the development of the plot is the evolution of the protagonist. This is very noticeable after several hours of the game: in the first minutes Jason clearly does not control his emotions, is overwhelmed with a feeling of fear, is afraid to breathe at the sight of Vaas and really wants his parents to take him away as soon as possible. But. He really becomes a man before our eyes, in the truest sense of the word: after a while he is firm; confident in yourself and your strengths; learns the skills of survival in the jungle; spiritually enriched by the guidance of a local priestess - Tsitra Tolugmai (Sister Vaasa, by the way) and is full of desire to take revenge on his offender for an unsuccessful vacation.

In general, the plot of the game, to put it mildly, is delusional: after being rescued from the captivity of Vaasa, Dennis from the Rakyat tribe immediately guides you on the path of some "warrior", telling about Jason's true destiny, simultaneously filling him with "tatau"; teaches you to survive in the jungle by cooking "potions" that sharpen the senses and appealing to your "wild" essence, and in addition to this, Citra in one of the missions gives you some intoxicating drink, and the local doctor Ernckhardt, by the way, is also a drug addict, sends hero for some "mushrooms", and in the cave where they grow, Jason accidentally steps on similar, thereby causing strong hallucinations, in general - a game from drug addicts for drug addicts.

Far cry 3 - amazing, beautiful, huge game. The game you want to live in. Not for nothing, the developers said that when creating it, they were inspired by the idea of another well-known project - The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim... It has all aspects role play: leveling system with a decent set of perks; collecting skins from animals and other "loot"; crafting, which here is expressed in the modification of existing weapons; crafting potions and drugs, to heal and enhance the feelings of the character and much more, because of all this, some fans began to call the game "skyrim with guns", which I think is not correct. Anyway.

The imagination and the size of the island amazes, and there are two of them here, but you can get to the second only a little closer to the middle of the game, that is, according to the plot. But the first one, I want to say, is more than enough. The surrounding landscape is teeming with all sorts of secrets: like lost notes from the Second World War; ancient relics; memory cards with data on drug cartels, as well as some kind of "sights" like bunkers, all the same World War II, etc.

The gameplay in the game is quite diverse and interesting, although in some places it may seem that everything present is not enough for such a large space. Initially, the map in the game is closed, and in order to open it, you need to climb the nearest tower and cut it down, this system is clearly borrowed from Assassins Creed iii , and by the way, the more towers you open, the more free weapons you open, and you also get experience. Oh yes, the outpost system from Far cry 2, which annoyed with the fact that the enemies constantly respawned, but here it was revised a little, making it possible to capture the outpost forever, and even make a kind of shelter out of it, with this there is the possibility of "fast movement" on the map, which is very convenient.

But for those who like to move around the game exclusively by transport, the game will not offend. Transport spoils us with a variety: there are jet skis, inflatable boats, boats, cars, ATVs, trucks, jeeps and even a hang glider. The gameplay is half stealth, and, perhaps, it is made excellently. In the first mission, while escaping from the captivity of the pirates, you are absolutely unarmed, but with pebbles in hand, pass the enemies on your haunches, throwing pebbles in different directions to distract them. Stupid fools humbly walk in the direction where you threw him. There is also an indicator of "visibility" by which you can determine the degree of awareness of the enemy about you and, if something happens, hide in the bushes.

The AI has been brought to mind, the island really lives, and lives on its own without your intervention: Rakyat warriors shoot with pirates almost at every corner, although it happens that not only with them, but with the local fauna, which, by the way, is very rich. The capture of the next outpost will not be similar to the previous one, i.e. the game is really unpredictable and generates in real time random events: you can, while sitting in the forest, shoot all opponents in the camp and calmly seize the post, or it may happen that nature itself will help you with this, for example, a tiger walking nearby can attack pirates and kill them all, from which the task and is simplified altogether. But, of course, wild predators can cause you a lot of problems.

The game can be played in various ways, in the style of "sneak up and cut out all the machetes", or right through, fortunately, a decent arsenal of weapons allows: pistols, assault and sniper rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers, shotguns and exclusive weapons like compound bow. The weapon, as I said, can be modified by putting on all kinds of body kits and even painting it. The weapon sounds good and reliable, it's nice to shoot, but still, up to a shooter like Battlefield 4 still far away.

The sandbox is one of the most important parts of the game. And the main occupation in this very "sandbox" is hunting and gathering. Game hunting brings us skins that can be sold or made into a bandolier, grenade bag, wallet, backpack, etc. And the "zoo" is really rich here: tigers, leopards, bears, deer, tapirs, monitor lizards, wild boars, cassowaries, sharks and other animals. Plants are used to make all sorts of different potions, but they are especially useful in hunting, for example, a serum for super flair, which allows you to "smell" the animal for a certain distance.

As I said, the game has a "tree" of skills, which consists of three branches: a heron, a shark and a spider. Experience gained during the game is spent on their open ones. These three branches are divided into active and passive. Active ones allow more opportunities for kills, for example, pulling the pin of a grenade from one enemy and pushing him to the rest, or jumping from a low ledge onto the enemy by plunging a machete into him, in general, the variety of kills is decent. Passive skills allow you to use medications more efficiently, restore health faster, swim, crouch, and so on. Yes, and there is no such question: "What to choose?", By the end of the game you will definitely open everything, do not worry. After the skill you have chosen, it "lights up" in the form of a tattoo on the left arm of the protagonist.

I know that this game is no longer quite relevant, but my hands have only now reached it. In general, I'm not a fan of the Far Cry series, I played the second part - I didn't like it, I tried to watch the movie - I didn't like it either, I admit I didn't even watch the trailer for Far Cry 3 when the game just came out, I didn't care, but once I saw it, already I don't remember where, the game has high ratings and ... I got interested. I don't like games with open world, I almost always think that this is superfluous. Far Cry 3 is no exception.

Graphics

Everything is fine, everything is great, I liked everything in general. And animation of faces, and sand, and water, and grass, and clouds, explosions and so on. Indeed, when you look at a waterfall, at splashes of water, and how trees sway nearby - it's really cool, I have nothing more to say.

Plot

This game cannot be completed in 4 hours like Call of Duty, even without completing secondary tasks. I passed Far Cry 3 in 2 days, playing 6 hours a day, and I can say that the plot is very long here. The very denouement of everything at the very beginning hooked me. People wanted to relax, have fun, fly to the island, but they were prevented by evil bandits who want to sell them ... It seems that something like this has already happened, and many times, but here is the fact that one man is friends with the local population, and more Moreover, he becomes a kind of leader or something, tries to save his friends, while repelling all the bad guys on the island, and he also has tattoos, since they should be on the body of every warrior ... you can not see everywhere. I liked the idea, but in the game, to be honest, it's wildly annoying when you are simply given a reason for some mission. Seriously, there are characters that tell us what to do, who to kill, and so on, but they don't do anything. Of course, in the end there will be, one might say, a pure cooperative, but at the beginning there are still a couple of shortcomings.

Music

To be honest, this is a bit of a weird approach to music here. They seem to have their own theme, they emphasize the atmosphere of the island, but I don't understand why Dubstep plays in some places, especially during shootouts ?! No, I'm not talking about that epic and cool moment when they gave us a flamethrower for the first time, everything was fine there. It also seemed to me that the music for the Stealth missions was not finalized a little, the Stealth in the game is, by the way, not bad, but if there was still suitable music, it would be just wonderful.

Game process

I really don't like the fact that you need to collect in the game. To carry more than one weapon, you must first kill a couple of animals, then skin them off, and make a weapon case. You also need to collect all sorts of leaves, for some you need to dive under the water so that you can carry a lot of leaves, you need to sew a large backpack, and to sew a backpack, you need to kill even more animals ... in short, you get the point. Why it was impossible to make such a system: With each mission you complete, your authority increases, and when you have enough authority, new opportunities will automatically be available, that is, you can carry more guns, you will have more space in your backpack, and so on. To open the map, you first need to climb the tower, and each time it will be more difficult and more difficult. These towers will be broken, it will be more and more difficult to climb on them, but it seems to me it's quite fun, and besides, after you've climbed up, you can go down the rope, or jump with a parachute, in short, quickly descend like in Assassin " s Creed. The game has a sufficient number of weapons, and this pleases, although you still won't have to use all possible guns. As I wrote above, the game has a very good Stealth, I liked throwing stones to distract opponents, kill everyone silently so that they would figure you out , in general, cool.

Outcome

Unfortunately, I did not experience any violent emotions from the game, of course I liked a lot of things, it was very interesting, I'm not saying that everyone needs to go through Far Cry 3, but still this game left its mark, especially Vaas, the leader gangs of pirates, seriously, this is one of the craziest characters in history gaming industry... Far Cry 3 also has a checkmate, which is also a little crazy. But the game has a lot of unnecessary things, I don't know how I could play for 6 hours without stopping ... but in the end the game seemed to me a little above average.

Game tested on PC

Before we start talking about Far Cry 3, it is worth remembering its predecessor - they are painfully similar.

Far Cry 2 was, in general, a very mediocre game. Ubisoft as if deliberately spoiled the shooter with excellent mechanics with all sorts of tediousness. Okay, a mediocre plot and relatively monotonous tasks - almost all sandboxes suffer from this. But remember the idiotic need to constantly look for pills for malaria (what kept you in unpleasant suspense - what if the hero gets stuck in the middle of the mission?), The total revival of opponents, as well as virtual world, wholly against the user. Wherever the protagonist followed, in each of the identical villages, the same type and endlessly regenerating enemies awaited him. And, finally, let's put it bluntly, not outstanding Africa, which was a solid brown smear, after which there is nothing to remember.

Far Cry 3 is an exemplary bug fix in this regard. Here again is a huge exotic world, where you basically also have to shoot, a little less often - to drive and explore the local spaces. But how much more exciting the process becomes when a well-presented story, a truly beautiful and varied environment, as well as a few unexpected innovations, most of which are characteristic of role-playing games, are added to the existing concept.

⇡ The path from yourself and to yourself

Jason Brody, along with his major friends, embarks on an exotic journey to the Pacific island. However, the vacation of young people is spoiled by pirates-slave traders, hoping to get a good ransom for the Californian guys. The main character tries to escape with his brother, but the latter dies at the hands of the bandit leader. Further, the protagonist still manages to break free, he gets acquainted with the local militia and begins to cleanse the island of pirates, also rescuing his own friends along the way and discovering new character traits in himself.

The story kind of tells us about the transformation of a weak boy from a wealthy family into a ruthless and almost insane killer. In the prologue, Jason almost writes out of fear at the sight of armed enemies, a little later begins to comprehend the basics of local philosophy (of course, through drugs), and then picks up a machine gun and just goes into battle. In the course of the story, psychedelic tests under heavy substances await us, endless conversations about madness and the true purpose of a warrior.

Honestly, the process of transformation of the protagonist is shown very conditionally - it is clear that in a different scenario we would not have to participate in open skirmishes for half the plot, but watch the smooth process of gaining courage, crawling through the jungle away from enemies. But, nevertheless, all these metamorphoses seem a little ridiculous - in the recent Spec Ops: The Line, by the way, there was something similar, but the dramatic component there still “inserted” much more (by the way, the stories of both games are inspired by the famous story “Heart darkness "). However, it has long been known that it is not easy to make a "sandbox" with a helluva lot of touching plot - numerous entertainments and amusements in the open world dilute the narrative.

But there are no and can not be any claims to the very presentation of the script. Far Cry 3, in terms of entertainment, makes other blockbusters from the third person - the hero is waiting for falls (certainly dizzying), hang gliding (a tribute to the series) and paragliding, spectacular hand-to-hand fights and beautiful videos.

Well, the characters in the story are above all praises. The mushroom doctor, the bespectacled leader of the island militia, the mysterious shaman (or who is she there?) Citra, the American spy, the German mercenary, the greedy slave trader - they all seem to have left the screens of first-class action-adventure movies. Dialogue, facial expressions, gestures - the actors really play their roles. But all of the above comrades simply pale in front of the leader of the pirates named Vaas - this crazy villain, without a doubt, deserves a game "Oscar" and cameo in some other projects from Ubisoft. You rarely find such cool antagonists - the comparison here is appropriate, no matter how trite it may sound, with the Joker from The Dark Knight.

⇡ Divo Island

Amazing Loyalty - Far Cry 3 allows the player to make their own decisions about what to do next. You can run the plot at a high pace (it will take 12-15 hours), without wasting time on side quests, pumping and exploring the surroundings. On the other hand, the virtual world of the game is so beautiful and filled with all sorts of cool details that to miss the opportunity to wander through it is sheer blasphemy.

The local tropics are very similar to what was in the first Far Cry - everywhere bright colors; soft grass covering fields and mountains; turquoise sea, in which you really want to swim. In addition, there are pyramids of ancient civilizations (why in the Pacific Ocean?), Japanese military bases during World War II and other interesting locations. At the same time, the size of the world is appropriate to compare with Red Dead Redemption or Far Cry 2 - in general, there is more than enough space for walking and research.

The map is divided into sectors, each with a radio communication tower. To open a region with all local sights on GPS, you need to climb the tower, press a button and ... No, you don't have to take a leap of faith, you just have to dashingly descend the cable. But the method of opening the world is really exactly the same as in Assassin's Creed. Another detail emphasizes the similarity with the game about medieval assassins - pirate bases that can be raided, thereby expelling villains from the territory and transferring it to the possession of friendly natives.

In fact, what is described in the paragraph above, for sure in words, seems like wild boredom and tediousness. But the bottom line is that the world in Far Cry 3 looks so cool and attractive that it is very difficult to resist this almost meaningless process of clearing the map of enemies and "dark" areas. The author of this text has always hated such side entertainments, but this time, for some reason, spent five hours on "pioneering".

As for the purely "role-playing" elements, in the game noticeable attention is paid to hunting and pumping. Moreover, the first is firmly connected with the second. For example, Jason can increase the size of his hiking backpack, attach a garter for additional weapons, or expand the bag for grenades. To do this, you will have to show your masculinity and kill the animals, letting their skins pump up specific items of inventory. Another of the "Skyrim" - collecting plants for the prompt production of drugs and stimulants.

Plus, Far Cry 3 also has a skill tree. Although the language does not turn out to be logical, one might think that increased health is equivalent in importance to the ability to hold your breath longer under water. But experience is gained quickly enough, so almost all talents will be revealed towards the end of the game.

In fact, with the proper desire, all of these role-playing aspects of the game can be easily criticized. Here, for example, why collect flowers and make first-aid kits from them, if already in the second hour of the passage, the ability to restore health on its own, by pressing one key, opens? On the other hand, some imbalance in the game almost does not interfere. As mentioned above, the player likes to hunt wild boars with a bow and arrow - please. If you don't like it, follow the storyline, you can easily do without an extended barrel bag.

⇡ Shoot and crawl

However, we remember that Far Cry 3 is not a simulator of a drug addict-hunter, but still a first-person shooter. And we, in general, have no complaints about the most important aspect of the game. A moderately sufficient variety of weapons (with the possibility of easy modifications), adequately working mechanics, no goofy wear from Far Cry 2 and a thoughtful level design that provides bright and unlikely firefights.

Stealth made its debut for the first time in the series. You can attach mufflers to the barrels, although it's boring - it's much more fun to crawl on your haunches and cut pirates with a knife. At worst - shoot from a bow, hiding in dense foliage. Episodes with the need for covert passage are encountered several times during the game - they are quite simple and distract from the incessant shooting quite well, but it's still good that Ubisoft did not lean heavily on this part.

Now, in theory, we should touch on the topic of multiplayer. If you only knew how boring it is to once again write about the online part of modern shooters. There are, say, Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield and Gears of War - the cutting edge arenas for multiplayer battles. And there are dozens of other games, not necessarily bad ones. But almost everywhere it is about the same, with minor variations and corrections for the scene. That's Far Cry 3 - team matches, domination and other standard set in a tropical setting. Well, in general, we do not see the point in further describing something. It's almost the same with a cooperative. Four players and six levels, furnished in the form of a pseudo story. In general, another "horde", but with pirates and under the palm trees.

Far Cry 3 really want to call perfect game with an open world, where almost all the constituent elements are beautiful. Moreover, new shooter from Ubisoft without false exaggeration falls under the title of one of the most beautiful and technologically advanced games of our time. The general picture is spoiled only by not fully thought out role-playing elements and the very little monotony - it is felt that the potential of the local game mechanics there is also. However, this does not prevent to award the last blockbuster before the end of the world with the highest score. And then, you know, then the opportunity to be so generous may not be presented.

Localization

About a miracle! In the Russian translation (official, if that) suddenly there was a checkmate! It's just a real tectonic shift.

It was always strange to hear frankly rude curses at English language, which our translators adapt to the puritanical "damn" and "devil". Of course, three-story obscene structures, as in the translations of D.Yu. Puchkov, there is no Far Cry 3, but the characters, in general, adequately scream obscenely at the right moments.

Here on the Web there were many complaints that our actors, they say, do not know how to swear non-theatrically. In our opinion, these are empty nagging - in films and games in translation, any speech, even censorship, does not sound like it does in real life. And in the case of FC3, they just drew attention to the notorious swear words, with which everything is in order.

Do not think that such a generous assessment was given only for the very fact of the presence of obscene language. Everything else is at a high level, so you can either find fault with the little things or enjoy quality work. We are not boring, so we choose the second option.

Localization Score: 9

Advantages:

  • a colossal and beautiful world filled with all sorts of interesting things;
  • a plot that is fascinating to watch;
  • graphics are such, for the sake of which it is not a shame to update the video card;
  • the pleasure of the uncomplicated process of shooting at enemies.

Disadvantages:

  • the interface is too complicated in places.
Graphics DirectX 11 demonstrates all the advantages of the engine in all its glory, and the design is at the level of technology. As a result, we repeat, Far Cry 3 turned out to be one of the most beautiful games modernity. 10
Sound Interesting musical motives, successful acting, good sound effects. What else does? 10
Single player game The plot about the path of an ordinary guy into the darkness and to the abyss gives off some grotesque. But the presentation, the presence of missions that are dissimilar to each other - everything is great. 10
Collective game A standard gentleman's set - can't there be an action game today without a network part? However, you can't really isolate anything from it, it just exists and performs its function. 7
General impression Perhaps the main contender for the title of the game of the year. 10

Words by Vaas Montenegro ("Far Cry 3") - Have I already told you what madness is?

Did I tell you what madness is? BUT? Madness is the exact repetition of the same action. Every now and again. Hoping for ... change. This ... is ... madness ... When I first heard this, I don't remember who said this crap, I BOOM, I killed him. The point is, hahahaha, okay, he was right. And then I began to see it everywhere. Wherever you look, these idiots ... Everywhere you look, they do exactly the same thing. Over and over and over and over and over and over again. And they think: "Now everything will change. No-no-no-no-no, please, now everything will be different ..." Sorry. I don't like the way ... you look at me! Okay? Are you having head problems? Do you think I'm hanging noodles on your ears? Lying? Fuck you! Okay? Let's go to the x-th! Everything is fine. I'll take it easy, brother. I’ll calm down. The point is ... Okay. The point is that I killed you. Already. And it's not that I'm fucking. Did you get it? It's like water under a bridge. Did I tell you what ... madness is?

“Have I already told you what madness is? Madness is the exact repetition of the same action, over and over again, in the hope of change. This is madness. When I first heard this, I don't remember who told me that, I - boom - killed him. The point is - okay? - He was right. And then I began to see it everywhere, everywhere, wherever I looked, these idiots ... Everywhere I looked, they were doing exactly the same thing. Over and over and over and over and over again, and they think - now everything will change. No no no no, please, now everything will be different. Sorry, I don't like the way you look at me! Okay? Do you have a head problem? Do you think I'm hanging noodles on your ears ?! Fuck you! Okay? Let's go! On the***! It's all right ... I'll calm down, brother, calm down. The point is ... Okay, the point is, I killed you. Already. And it’s not that I’m a ** ugly, truncated? Fyuyuyut ... It's like water under a bridge ... Did I already tell you what madness is? .. "-(c) Vaas Montenegro. IN Far game Cry 3 devotes quite a lot of attention to "madness", as well as various hallucinogenic substances. So, for example, on an island, in an estate on a high hill, Dr. Earnhardt lives. You wouldn't want to see him: Doc picks mushrooms in a cave under his house and makes drugs from them, which he sells to pirates (which is why they are all crazy too). He himself often kisses them. Jason also has to visit this cave to find one special mushroom. On the way, he inhales fungal spores, after which hallucinations begin. Also, the dock sponsors the wheels of Jason's friends while they are in the grotto nearby. After taking the pill, you will find yourself in Jason's memories, of which there are exactly three, and you will learn how a group of friends ended up on this cursed island.

In addition to the dock, the pirates themselves also grow "grass" on the island, by order of Hoyt. For export, and possibly for domestic use. Generally speaking, it is difficult to determine which of the characters in the game are sane. Citra, the leader of the Rakyat aborigines, every time Jason visits her temple, gives him some new rubbish, almost lethal poisons, from which simply monstrous, life-threatening hallucinations begin. One must think that she treats everyone to rakiyat with these dope. So the characters are on the side of the chapters. the hero is also far from his mind. Anyway, all of them here, if you think about it, look as if they are constantly high, and most likely they are.

It's safe to say that the developers took inspiration from the famous book by Lewis Carroll - "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". Some missions even show quotes from the book, full list you will find in the section
