Superhot VR is rich in various stunts. Throwing a brick at an enemy, knocking a pistol out of his hands, catching a weapon and finishing off the enemy with a handle on the head, and then shooting three enemies in a helicopter behind you is one of the typical sketches of the game. It can take a few minutes or a couple of seconds - it all depends on how quickly you come up with the most spectacular way to get rid of opponents. Here you can slow down time, but if in the original Superhot, due to the mechanics traditional for shooters, the player could avoid shootouts, then in VR there is a slightly different scheme.
All enemies run directly to you, which turns the levels into scenes from the "Matrix", where agents one after another chased the main character. And you just have to decide how to deal with them, using all the items and weapons at hand, while dodging bullets, knives, baseball bats, etc. The narrative here, as in the original, often breaks through the fourth wall, which only adds to the unique atmosphere of Superhot VR.
Skyrim VR

Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality

It would be nice if you suddenly happen to be a fan of this cartoon so that you have at least some idea of what is happening (and why everyone is yelling at you), but even if you are not familiar with the characters, there are still many fun puzzles here. and creative toys... Playing as a clone of young Morty, you complete various tasks: some are simple (at first glance), such as cleaning, in others you need to move through portals to other planets.
It's a real pleasure to experiment with fantastic things in Rick's garage, including a shrink beam, a device that allows you to combine any two objects, and a Misix ball, which allows you to summon helpers who follow your movements. This cartoonish game is one of the most compelling things for VR today because it's fun and interactive.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Keep Talking can be safely called the most family simulator bomb disposal. It is family-owned because, according to the developers' idea, one person plays the role of a sapper, while the others dig into the weighty bomb disposal guide (the electronic version is included and in theory needs to be printed) and shout out the procedure.
The virtual reality is not very believable here, but the very fact that you are in a room with a complex explosive mechanism creates the necessary tension. And if you want to take a look at the manual for yourself and leave the bomb unattended, it will explode. You can play not only with a VR headset, but also on a regular monitor. And all in the black (except for those that exploded).
Robo recall

Cyan has created an amazingly rich world in this game, which is much more interesting to explore in VR - this is how all the smallest nuances that you might have missed in the regular version are revealed. Obduction, as a continuation of the traditions laid down in Myst and Riven, is full of spatial mysteries, and their solutions are often right in front of the player's eyes. In my review, I said that this game "retains the atmosphere of Myst without looking dated"; multiply that by two and you can see what the VR version is. It feels like you are in the classic world from Myst, but it is so realistic that you sometimes need to bend over to something to get a better look.
Obduction looks so great in VR precisely because the original gameplay from Myst seemed to be specially created for virtual reality. You jump from one point to another, then look around and collect the necessary items. The mechanics and pace of the game didn't need to be changed at all to fit it into VR. You can, of course, just run around this world (if the vestibular apparatus allows), but Cyan made each jump point so interesting and unusual that you want to act exactly as the developers intended.
Chronos
The developer: Gunfire Games | Compatibility: Oculus Rift
Chronos is a great example of how the beloved genre, after being transferred to VR, sparkled with new colors, while enhancing the effect of presence. In my review, I wrote the following about the game: “This is a time-tested action RPG in the spirit of The legend of Zelda with a combat system and puzzles that will seem familiar to all fans of the genre. But, as for me, Chronos was able to do what Zelda could not. What any game running on a monitor or TV could not achieve. Even if the game completely absorbs me, I cannot say that I feel myself on the other side of the monitor. And Chronos in VR evokes exactly that feeling. I was literally in and really didn't want this adventure to end. "
Here is an exciting 15-hour adventure in which you have to explore an open world with many interconnected (and mostly beautiful) locations, as well as master combat system where it is important to catch the pace in every fight. Compared to RPGs like Dark Souls game much simpler, but with every minute in VR, it draws deeper into its universe. If I were asked to name the one and only project for the Oculus Rift that cannot be missed, I would certainly think of Chronos.
Elite: Dangerous
The developer: Frontier Developments | Compatibility: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive
Elite: Dangerous is the first commercial game originally developed for VR, and therefore demonstrates the full potential of this technology to the maximum. Intense space battles between bulky battleships and nimble fighters look great from the cockpit. It's like you're in space battles straight out of Star Wars. The camera allows you to turn your head to follow enemy fighters flying by. If you are playing with a joystick, you can lower your head and see the body of the pilot and his arms, which exactly follow your movements. And if the cabin is not too narrow, then you can even get up and walk on it.
But the game pleases not only the shootings in open space. Elite looks impressive in VR no matter what you do: even docking with ships looks incredible, let alone the magnificent views of space itself. You will never forget your first flight through the asteroid ring. Millions of slowly rotating asteroids will appear before your eyes, and you yourself will not notice how you stop for a minute or two to admire the spectacle. The galaxy is beautiful on conventional 2D screens, but VR really feels its size. Flying at the speed of light and moments of docking with ships also look incredible - all this due to immersion in the game world. When jumping to other solar systems, you will unconsciously squeeze into a chair, watching billions of stars sweep by.
By the way, flights in Elite are rich in small details. The ships look massive and realistic, and each model behaves differently. They are all unique, from the Hauler (a clumsy freighter handed out early in the game) to the agile Eagle and Cobra fighters. Of course, in VR, these differences are only more striking. Playing with headphones is highly recommended, as the sound effects allow you to dive deeper into the illusion of space - especially helpful.
Elite: Dangerous is a pioneer in creating immersive virtual reality games. After its release, there were many games developed specifically for VR headsets, but it has not yet been surpassed. This is a rare example of a game that takes place in VR in an interesting way, and not just run for an hour and compare the sensations with the regular version. But be careful: here you will find a lot of steep turns, and upon returning to reality, you may be a little dizzy, especially if you have spent more than one or two hours in the game.
Hover junkers
The developer: Stress Level Zero | Compatibility: HTC Vive
Hover Junkers has the most interesting control system among all VR games. The game looks like a shooter with a cover system - you have to hide behind the walls of your vehicle consisting mainly of wooden beams and pieces of metal. With one hand, you need to steer vehicles collected from all the trash, and with the other, you need to shoot opponents, while spending most of the time in cover.
It is quite difficult to aim here, but over time you get used to it; it is also worth noting the extremely detailed reloading process, which takes place almost like in real life. For example, while reloading a pistol, pressing the controller's trackpad opens the drum, bullets are inserted into it using the circular motions of the trackpad, and the characteristic movement of the wrist closes the drum. This is a simple technique, but when you almost finished off the enemy or you yourself are hanging by a thread from death, it is easy to panic and slam the drum harder than you should.
The main problem with Hover Junkers is that this is a multiplayer game, and the list of online players is either empty or reduced to two or three. This doesn't make the game a bad one, so let's hope that the number of players will increase as a lot of people have already purchased a Vive headset this year.

The game Accounting can be praised for a long time for its original sense of humor, but it got on this list thanks to one of the characters - we are talking about a two-headed xylophone skeleton. This beautiful and at the same time frightening creature stuck in the memory for a long time, and it looks as if it came straight from someone's hallucination.
Job Simulator

When buying an HTC Vive headset this game comes in the kit and is, as the name implies, a simulator of walking around the office. Here is a puzzle on the construction of various human-sized mechanisms. Using handles, rotating cylinders and your own creativity, you have to create designs that will mix in levels, and trivial tasks like the one mentioned above become noticeably more difficult over time.
Fantastic Contraption is impressive, first of all, by its intuitive controls. Structuring here is essentially connecting points, and modifying objects works exactly as expected. Need to make the part longer? Stretch it. Want the wheel to spin the other way? Just spin it in the opposite direction. Don't need a connector anymore? Throw it behind your back and it disappears. Even at the most difficult levels, the main problem is getting the plan right, not executing it.
Developers from Northway Games are also promoting a rather interesting concept - during the testing of the game, they used cameras and a green screen and recorded the actions of the players in VR on video. As a result, everything looked as if the player was really in game world... It's an interesting idea on top of an equally interesting game.

The gameplay, as the name suggests, consists in simulating the profession of a truck driver: behind the wheel of a truck, you have to transport various goods across European cities, while observing traffic rules. The detailed cabins that match the cabs of real trucks create a tangible effect of presence. Here you can look around, observing the passing clouds, or lean out the window at the moments when you need to drive through a narrow tunnel.
The weather change is also implemented here. Raindrops dripping down the glass as you pick up speed is one of the many little things that keep local realism going. You seem to be driving your truck through bad weather. And if you play in VR and at the same time connect a controller in the form of a steering wheel, then the illusion becomes even more convincing - connecting the steering wheel is, of course, optional, but highly recommended.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 recreates an astounding slice of Europe, including the UK and Scandinavia, and their countless highways. And those roads that looked great in the regular version look even more natural in VR. The most beautiful of the presented countries can be called Norway with its picturesque valleys, lakes and forests, which you never tire of admiring during every trip. Oddly enough, the fact that the game is based on mundane actions makes it more realistic than, for example, Elite - you don't need to use your imagination here. You may not be attracted to the idea of playing a trucker simulator, and even more so in VR, but believe me, this game is worth giving a chance.
The Gallery Episode 1: Call of Starseed

It was obvious from the start that a Myst-style first-person shooter would be perfect for VR. And so it happened: two for VR today are Obduction and The Gallery. In the first episode The Gallery you will find yourself on a gloomy island at night, trying to understand what is happening on it, and at the same time getting immersed in the local atmosphere. Walking around the island and exploring every corner of it, as well as studying the objects found ... well, it all looks very plausible.
In such VR projects, the focus is on the ability to create a realistic atmosphere, and thanks to the attention to certain details, The Gallery succeeds. Such details include lightning strikes, the ability to bring sheets of paper to your face to read the text, various nuances in the scenery, such as medieval candlesticks with candles that can be removed and extinguished. This is exactly what kept me for the first hour in The Gallery, and by this moment an intriguing story in a sci-fi style had already started spinning. This is the first episodic game I've seen in VR, and I'm more than confident I'll make it to the end.

Looking at the legendary 'pilot' you can feel as if you are on the set. Even if you are afraid to be in the same room with an Alien, Isolation is worth trying out in VR, if only for the famous fantastic scenery that looks like real in 3D. But at this point, a very important thing needs to be mentioned: a considerable percentage of similar applications require an additional accessory to control the character. It could be a wired joystick, but it's better to buy a Bluetooth controller anyway. It is more compact and there will be no problems with wires.
Google Play is not only rich in shooters and racing in terms of VR games. Here, in addition to Traffic Racer or Mountain Sniper, you can even find a wingsuit jumping simulator. Or a fly simulator. Or a spaceship. Or a combat aircraft. I could list endlessly, but I think everything is clear. In general, the choice is up to the user. After spending at least an hour or two searching, you can find some good toys for VR glasses, from passing which we will get no less pleasure than passing through ordinary games.
Now we will talk about combining software with multimedia, namely about watching movies with virtual reality glasses. Actually, after the games, this is the second reason that prompts people to buy the appropriate accessories. This is especially motivating for those who like to go to the cinema for a show in 3D. What could be better than having your own cinema close at hand, and with the ability to pause the movie at any moment? And although there are quite a few similar applications on Google Play, we will consider only one player, because it has everything that we need.
VaR's VR Player is a multimedia player for viewing both 3D videos and VR videos with a laconic but stylish and understandable user interface... The application allows you to play files that are already available directly on the smartphone (selection either through the gallery or through a directive browser). In addition, if the video is hosted on a site, you can simply enter its URL in the corresponding menu so as not to download files and not waste time on it. If, of course, traffic allows it.
This program for the Android platform is distributed absolutely free of charge and now, after several updates, it appears on Google Play with the postfix “Pro”. The only purchased content costs 259 rubles, and with its help we can turn off annoying ads. By the way, it is the only drawback of the application. At least in my opinion. Although ratings and reviews on Google Play, my point of view, most likely, only reinforces. As an analogue of the application, you can call the AAA VR Cinema program.

For this there is a special software... If you bought Google Cardboard, then I recommend downloading the corresponding application. But if virtual reality glasses are from another manufacturer, then universal software tools come to the rescue. In such videos, filmed using the 360-degree technology, the user has no freedom in terms of movement. He sees only what the fixed camera was able to capture around him. But who said it shouldn't be cool? I assure you: skydiving and roller coasters look pretty impressive, especially on smartphones with a good screen resolution.
To watch such videos, you do not need to download special applications. Nowadays many Android smartphones come with a preinstalled Youtube application, where you can find these “vidos”. If this program is not available, then simply refer to the browser version of the site. In any case, the request will be the same: 360. You can find software for a personal computer on the developer's official website, and mobile version applications - on Google Play. I want to warn you right away that the trial version only allows devices to sync for 15 minutes. Then the connection is dropped, and it will have to be established again. In fact, you can do this indefinitely. But the only question is the comfort of such use.
With a wired connection, performance will be better, but the wire will reduce mobility. I recommend setting the balance between image quality and speed in the settings of the smartphone version of the program, but on the computer, set the resolution in games to 800x600. Moreover, the game itself should be launched in windowed mode... This will help save precious FPS and avoid frame drops as much as possible.
