Gamers need to know which games will tax their system, pushing it to its limits while still delivering superior graphics that the game can handle. That's why we've prepared a list with the most demanding PC games today.

IN this list will be presented 16 games, which are the most graphically intensive to date.

How will the verification be carried out?

We use built-in tests in the game settings, as well as the capture tool frame rates Fraps. Assessment will be based on their average frame rate: The lower the average frame rate, the higher the current game will be at the top of our list.

To really push the game to its absolute graphical limits, we ran each game in 4K (3840x2160) with ultra settings.

Yes, this includes full anti-aliasing, which admittedly doesn't make much sense in 4K, where high resolution already serves that purpose.

However, this is not an optimization guide, and we are not trying to find an effective balance between performance and quality. The purpose of this test is to check the limits of our modern PC high class.

The only features we disabled were VSync(Vertical Sync) so that we are not affected by the 60Hz refresh rate of our monitor and Supersample(Over-sampling anti-aliasing) - so that all games are in the same resolution field. We played approximately 5 minutes in every game and only in order to eliminate possible problems with the Internet. We also avoided third party mods.

Another important aspect to consider before seeing the full ranking of the most demanding games, that's what a lot of them are cross-platform games that may not have been optimized to perfection specifically for PC.

We built our PC based on the kit Barebone Bulldog 2.0 from Corsair which includes the motherboard Mini-ITX Z270 from MSI, liquid cooling Corsair Hydro Series H6 SF CPU And 600-watt power supply.

High quality Intel 7700K 4-core processor with a clock frequency of 4.2 GHz and 16 GB RAM DDR4 with a clock frequency of 2133 MHz, operating in dual-channel mode. GTX 1080 graphics card(8 GB GDDR5X and GPU core overclocked to 1683 MHz) and water cooling from Corsair and MSI.

It's certainly not the most powerful computer you can build, but it's certainly a high-end setup. And since we're only using one graphics card, SLI scaling won't be an issue.

A card game of the roguelike genre that you quickly get used to. It takes the strategic fun of board games and combines them with the intricacies of games like The Binding of Isaac and Risk of Rain, in which finding random items can change the course of the game. If you get a lucky hand, you can become a terrible card god. Like the best roguelikes and board games, Slay the Spire gives players an absolute blast when you land a devastating combo.

Enemies that once seemed threatening now fall to their knees before you. This game is fun to play over and over again thanks to what you can unlock: more strong cards for each type of deck, as well as protagonists whose play styles differ from each other.

Developer: Wadjet Eye Buy

Blackwell's new adventure game, Wadjet Eye, is one of their best creations. They have demons, exorcism, and light RPG elements that influence the plot. A surprisingly inventive roguelike that will run even on computers with an integrated graphics card. Unexplored retains the complex and interconnected systems that made ASCII-era roguelikes replayable, like magical scrolls and DIY potions. But here these elements are presented not in text format, but in an intuitive interface.

The battles in the game do not take place step-by-step, but in real time. You can pause the game to think about your next steps, but you will also need to react to gracefully deal with enemies with your melee weapons (by the way, each type of attack has a separate animation).

The real innovation of Unexplored lies in the procedural generation of the world's story, linking the dungeons and hinting at the opponents we'll meet later. Each dungeon here is a truly unique place with its own backstory, which is extremely rare in this genre.

One of the most funny games 2017 and, perhaps, the funniest RPG in our memory. In this project you explore the world for new jokes, not for loot. The jokes here are scattered all over the world, they are even in the settings menu, and finding new jokes is a real pleasure. In addition, West of Loathing has a strong RPG component, and game classes very different from the standard ones - how do you like, for example, the Bean Thrower and the Cow Hunter?

As we wrote in our review of the game: “Flush the toilet for experience points, search a haystack for a needle, or go into a mine to find meat ore (meat is the mainstay of the economy in West of Loathing), and then insult your reflection in the mirror to enter berserk mode and get an attack buff. Cuphead brings a nod to Gunstar Heroes and other platformers from the '90s by challenging us to incredibly challenging bosses, each with multiple phases.

If defeat doesn't bother you and you're willing to memorize the bosses' order to defeat them, you're in for a great time. Just look at the amazing soundtrack and visual style of the game, inspired by the animation of the beginning of the last century.

The breakthrough game of 2015, which turned the entire RPG genre on its head, owes its popularity to the fact that you could even run the game on a toaster. And I don't want to say that it looks bad or that we didn't like the gameplay. For those familiar with the rules of the RPG genre and the hackneyed ones found in every other game, Undertale has become a bright, enchanting and delightful swan song that makes us rethink all our gaming habits.

Go on a date with a skeleton, tame (or kill) dogs and ponder the difficult fate of a mouse deprived of cheese. Undertale will make you question every choice you make, except, of course, your local shopping choices.

A brilliant and intense strategy game where we have to wander through dungeons literally imbued with the spirit of Lovecraft, which is expressed in the ingenious presentation of the plot and in frightening quests. When your party comes face to face with the horrors of the dungeons, its members become stressed, and the greater the stress, the higher the likelihood that the heroes will begin to lose their minds. All this creates constant tension.

What if the plague doctor is the most reliable member of the party, but he constantly insults his comrades, increasing their stress levels? Character deaths in Darkest Dungeon are usually handled quite harshly, but you'll find that it's not so easy to tear yourself away from the game, even if you've just seen an entire squad of heroes die.

This is a point-and-click adventure game from Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert. It's full of mysteries, which are essential to any game of this genre, but it gives players freedom of movement and choice, so you can always find a new path if you get stuck in some episode. In my review, I called it "a quality adventure with creative puzzles, strange but lovable characters, and an intriguing plot with a touch of mysticism."

Build your farm, turn it into a real vegetable empire, explore the world, spy on your neighbors, fall in love and start a family. A cute platformer with a billion levels. Okay, actually there are fewer of them. Approximately thousands, but if you count all the levels that modders have created, then it’s not far from a billion. As I wrote about N++ right after the game arrived on PC, “it's more of a toy that you take out from time to time for purely aesthetic pleasure. Perhaps one of the most enjoyable platformers ever.”

Developer: Suspicious Developments Buy

Created by former PC Gamer editor Tom Francis, who previously released Gunpoint, Heat Signature is a project whose gameplay consists of sneaking into spaceships and fighting with the crews of those ships, using everything that comes to hand. In our review of the game, we wrote this: “Heat Signature encourages creativity, constantly increasing the difficulty, as befits a good immersive sim.

I constantly share with my friends stories of incredible robberies in which all decisions were made in the heat of the moment. Heat Signature manages to create a lot of memorable situations in a procedurally generated universe."

Developer: inXile Entertainment Buy

A sequel to Planescape: Torment? It sounded too good to be true, but inXile took the engine that Obsidian built Pillars of Eternity on and recreated the world of Torment in an RPG format that retained almost everything we loved about the original. Fortunately for all laptop owners, the game is not particularly demanding on hardware, and therefore anyone can get acquainted with it.

In our review, we wrote the following: “A leisurely beginning smoothly flows into a thoughtful adventure in a memorable setting. An excellent continuation of the classic RPG."

Developer s: Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl Buy

The original version of the game looks like it could run on anything, but strangely, it used all the CPU power, overloading the system. Its remake, called Rebirth, feels quite comfortable on weak computers and laptops, thanks to the new engine, which gave us a new visual style, wider rooms and a lot of new content.

2D games like The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth are usually designed specifically for weak systems, and if you like games with procedural generation of items and rooms where you only have one life, be sure to check out Dungeons of Dredmor, Spelunky, FTL and Rogue Legacy. And when you're hopelessly addicted to this drug, move on to add-ons for The Binding of Isaac: I'm talking about Afterbirth and Afterbirth.

I could include almost any game based on the Source engine here, since it works great on systems that are outdated by today's standards. (Perhaps because it itself is already outdated). Half-Life 2, with all its new visual mods, no longer fits into this category, while Portal 2 remains one of the most fun and inventive puzzle games out there, even if you play it at 800x600 resolution and the lowest graphics settings.

In the end, it's not the fancy visuals that matter here, but the amazing voice acting from Stephen Merchant, J.K. Simmons and Ellen McLane, as well as that potato sequence.

Most often, laptop owners ask the same question online: “Will Minecraft run on it?” And the answer is simple: “Most likely, yes.” Mojang's cube world is not very demanding on systems, and it is ideal for killing a couple of hours in it - especially if there is an urgent article about games with low system requirements hanging on the nose.

The fourth part works great on a laptop, and if your gadget can handle this game, then it’s worth taking a look at other similar games - for example, the fantasy Endless Legend from Amplitude Studios and Age of Wonders III from Triumph.

What's good about the 2008 game? The fact that it was released in 2008, which means it does not need a powerful gaming system. Valkyria Chronicles is an excellent tactical RPG that is in many ways reminiscent of Firaxis' reboot of XCOM. And the beautiful art style looks simply mesmerizing on PC. This is one of those JRPGs that every fan of the genre should try (this includes Trails in the Sky and the Y series from Falcom).

The Wadjet Eye studio, together with the publisher Adventure Game Studio, continues to produce high-quality modern adventure games that modestly require a Pentium or higher processor. Most sources describe TaleWorlds' Mount & Blade as a "strategy role-playing game with sandbox and simulation elements," and it's one of those games that has gained a decent amount of fans who continue to play it even years after its release.

You should opt for Warband if you are determined to fight bandits on horseback (in essence, this is the same original, but with additional content). Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord promises us more advanced graphics, but if you don't mind the outdated visuals, then Warband, along with all the mods, will captivate you for many months.

A touching and sometimes sad story about crimes, revealing secrets and trying to fit into a strange and cold world. Night in the Woods attracts not so much with its mysteries as with its lively and deep characters, as well as its melancholic atmosphere. Walk on power lines, fool around with old friends, disappoint your parents and fight against the system.

At first, the pace of the game will seem too slow for you, but over time you will get used to it. If you have a long train ride ahead of you, and it’s pouring rain outside, then you won’t find a better game.

Don't be fooled by the cute appearance of the units: this is a serious strategy game with a World War II theme, set on the Eastern Front. Of course, the cute interface is confusing, and at first glance you might not understand that this is a deep war game. If you've been wanting to try this genre, but have always been put off by the overly detailed menus, then Unity could be your first step into the realm of war games.

80 Days is a great retelling of the Jules Verne classic Around the World in 80 Days, and you'll spend most of your time reading. This is a novella that is rightly praised as one of the best game scenarios 2015, which also contains elements of strategy - you need to create your own travel route. I recommend running it on your laptop to fully appreciate the art style, make it easy to read the text, and always carry it with you while passing the time on the road or while waiting.

Snakebird is yet another game that tries to mislead us with its cute art style. In fact, this is one of the most difficult puzzles in the history of the genre. The mechanics themselves are quite simple - move the heroes around the level to eat all the fruits and then head to the exit, but the design of the puzzles is surprising, since even seemingly simple levels can present a task for several hours.

If you don't mind a good stretch of brainpower, then Snakebird is a must-have for your pocket game.

When you accidentally stumble upon Shovel Knight, you know you've found a real treasure. This emotion is comparable to the feeling when you rummage through the collection of old NES games that your parents bought and find Mega Man or DuckTales for the first time. But this game is much better because it has more secrets, more interesting mechanics, and more unexpected artistic touches that games from the 8-bit era simply weren't capable of.

Challenging but fair to the player, Shovel Knight features easy-to-use controls that fit nicely on the keyboard. And its style, inspired by 8-bit projects of the past, means compatibility with any computers and laptops.

I try not to overdo visual novels, but Danganronpa definitely deserves a place on the list as it is one of the most talked about and craziest Japanese novels of recent years. The set includes two games from the series: Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair.

In my review, I tried to briefly describe the plot of the first part: “A crazy and perverted villain named Monokuma, who appears in the guise of a mechanical bear, traps school students and forces them to play a creepy game. The only way to leave this place, or as he says, to “graduate,” is to kill another student.” And everything was delivered at the highest level.

The cRPG industry is being revived again, which should please all gamers with weak computers. Some games like the luxurious and fully three-dimensional Divinity: Original Sin turn out to be a little demanding on systems, while the rest get the most out of the Infinity Engine without loading the players' computers.

Thanks to pre-rendered backgrounds and relatively modest visual effects Pillars of Eternity also runs on medium-sized machines. Yes, its requirements are slightly higher than those of Baldur’s Gate’s or Planescape: Torment’s, but from the very beginning you get a nice-looking game that does not require installing a ton of additional visual mods. Every year we take stock of the PC platform by presenting a list of the most optimized games. Over the past years, a large amount of information has accumulated and we decided to collect it in one article to make it easier for everyone to find optimized PC games. What games are considered well-optimized?

But first of all, we will announce the rules according to which projects that come into our field of vision are determined.

Are games slowing down a lot? Old computer? We start from the technical condition of the release version of the game: there should be no crashes, slowdowns, gameplay bugs or graphics artifacts, since the buyer should immediately receive a high-quality product, and not download a bunch of patches for another six months in order to finally play normally.

But, taking into account the current state of the gaming industry, we give a chance to those games whose problems were quickly fixed by the first patches and they fight on par with those games that did not have any special technical problems at the time of release. All others are immediately excluded.

For the remaining games on the list, performance scaling is carefully considered - how much the project reveals the potential of a particular video card, processor and computer system as a whole, how performance increases with the transition to new and more advanced architectures.

An important advantage can be the presence of a large number of settings, since thanks to them the user is able to adjust the game performance to his system. For example, by working with the settings, sometimes you can significantly increase FPS and hardly lose any image quality - it is logical that such projects receive an advantage.

The final list is compiled in such a way that it contains the games that best scale their performance, with the fewest technical problems at the time of release, and with a large number of settings. We try to ensure that the list contains popular and relevant ones. different systems projects and when compiling it, we do not judge which game from our list is better than another or which has a higher rating.

The most optimized games of 2012 for PC

2012 was remembered for the release of very interesting games, one might even say, unique in their genre and long gone down in history, overgrown with memes and jokes. It’s very nice that most of them came out with excellent graphics and worked well on systems that were current for that year. In addition, games from a variety of genres and publishers managed to make their way into the list.

The graphics in PC games and console games were so different that many visually advanced games were developed specifically for personal computers. This year has become a landmark year for the PC player audience, as the transition between consoles of the previous and current generations required developers to pay more attention to the PC audience. Firstly, we saw the maximum number of optimized games - there are 14 of them on our list, and secondly, the quality of optimization for almost any game released in 2014 was higher than in previous years.

But 2015 turned out to be a very lackluster year - only long-term projects, that is, those games that were developed for 3-5 years, got high-quality ports.
