Epic strategy. Download WTH Epic strategy for android v.1.3. Age of Empires series

What is the most important thing for you in the game? Good plot, great graphics, addictive gameplay? For many, an indicator of the quality of a game is an ending with an unexpected outcome, or vice versa, one that leaves more questions than answers. We decided to collect in one post the most epic endings from computer games recent years... Enjoy.

Although this is obvious, it is still worth warning: WARNING! Huge SPOILERS are waiting for you next!

Half-life 2

The ending in Half-Life 2 is remarkable even for the fact that it is one, unlike most modern games, where there is different variants development of events and, accordingly, different endings. However, she leaves behind much more questions than answers. On the one hand, this is great, there is room for your own imagination. On the other hand, there is still a certain feeling of understatement and disappointment, when after so many hours of addictive gameplay you are left with literally nothing. And yet it's a very cool ending.

Metro: Last Light

In the Metro series, there are traditionally two endings: good and bad. However, in the case of Metro: Last Light, I would not be so categorical. To some extent, both of them are good, although one of them is still much more optimistic. Experienced players know that in order to get a “good” ending, you need to do good deeds throughout the game. It is not known for certain what percentage of kindness is enough for a good ending, but the more you do it, the better. Anything can be good deeds: donate cartridges to the beggars, spare surrendering enemies, try not to kill unless absolutely necessary, some levels can be passed without a single shot at all. You can find out which ending awaits you at the end of the game already at the moment of departure from Polis to D6, when the black one utters the phrase: "If you lose, will it be bad for everyone? ..". If after that he says "Then I will ask them to help." you will have a "good" ending, if he says "Then I must save my own." there will be a regular ending.

The last of us

The ending The games Last of Us is static, it is not good, not bad, it simply obeys the logic of the development of the plot that the creators of the game have prepared for us. Yes, the controversy over this ending does not subside to this day, although the game has been around for quite a few years. For many, the changes in the behavior of the protagonist, with whom we usually associate ourselves when passing such games, seemed unacceptable. But, this is the story that the authors wrote, this is their idea, and this also needs to be treated with respect.

Crysis 3

Nice and very logical ending of the game. Unlike the same Half-Life 2, the ending of "Crisis" at least gives a sense of some kind of completeness of the story, although the scene after the credits also leaves food for thought and fantasy. This is how, it seems to me, games of this kind should end, not too vague (this is not an arthouse movie), and at the same time not too simple. Earth is saved, human DNA has merged with alien DNA, the suit has become a full-fledged part of the body ... isn't this a classic happy ending?

Portal 2

What can definitely be considered a real happy ending is the final scene of Portal 2. It would seem: the cameras of the Aperture test site are behind, no more tests, no crazy robots and artificial intelligence with manic inclinations, live and be happy. But you and I know that external calm can be extremely deceiving. There is a widespread theory among players that the field on which the main character appears at the very end of the game is nothing more than a new test chamber.

Mafia 2

"What happened to Joe?" - a question that has been haunted by Mafia fans for many years. Naturally, when it was officially announced that the third part of the game would be released and, moreover, would exist and develop in the same universe as the second, we had a hope that he would put everything in its place. In fact, there were almost more questions than after the ending of Mafia 2. On the one hand, there is a story told by Vito himself about how Joe escaped from the people of Galante, hid for some time in Chicago, and then was brutally killed by people who he trusted. On the other hand: what about that little episode at the very end of Mafia 3, when Vito gets into the car? Have you seen the driver closing the door behind him? And this scar on your chin? He's exactly like Joe's! However, as is customary among the creators of "Mafia", nothing is said directly, we are again left in the dark.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War

A very interesting, very atmospheric and soulful game. And its ending remained the same: melancholic, thought-provoking and incredibly touching. Many players wrote that they literally could not hold back their tears when they saw Emil go through his last steps before being shot. A game that was able to show the war from a different, much more realistic, human side.

Half-Life 2: Episode Two

If the ending of Half-Life 2 made the player just think a lot about what happened and how to tie it together, then the ending of Half-Life 2: Episode Two makes you just shout: “What? How is that ?! " On the one hand, this is an excellent plot twist: the showdown with the alliance is over, the smoke of the war has cleared away, there is time to take a breath and gather strength. Nobody expected a catch. On the other hand: how can you easily take and kill, albeit not a key, but very important character, without any visible prerequisites? We can argue for a long time, but we have what we have and we now have to live with it.

Top best PC strategies that you can play online or over the network with friends and random opponents, a description of how to play

Strategy games are games in which you can feel like a king, ruler, and even God. They do not differ in the dynamics of gameplay (as in shooters), but they force the player to reason logically, develop tactics, and make various decisions. Victory in them depends on the user's ability to anticipate the future actions of the opponent, coordinate the actions of his army and calculate his strength.

At other times, strategies are not only battles between thousands of troops. A complex economic system is hidden behind the spectacle, the development of which will also bring you victory in the game. And sometimes there are no battles at all - some developers release exclusively economic strategies based on any business (or in other areas).

Either way, strategies can keep you long in front of the screen. In this article, we have presented TOP of the best strategies on PC of all time where you will find decent games. They can be played with friends, teaming up against AI, alone or against other users. For convenience, the strategies are presented in the form of a list, which describes their main advantages.

Of course, you can also express your opinion in the comments on the article, and those who do not have time to download strategies on a PC can see a list of the best rated browser-based online strategies that you can start playing right now.

Warcraft III - online

Released: 03.06.2002

Genre: real-time strategy with RPG elements

The essence of the game lies in the uniform construction of the base, pumping heroes and recruiting an army. For each game stage and situation, different actions are prioritized, of which there is an inexorable set, which in itself determined the incredible success of the game among gamers. It is worth noting that for different races there are different priorities, which creates a kind of abstract balance.

Of course, the game achieved success primarily because the history of Warcraft is quite old, and the first game in the series was released back in 1994 on DOS, which allowed it to win crowds of fans at the dawn gaming industry... The entire Warcraft series has a deep and thoughtful history on which the plot of Warcraft III is based, although it is not important here, it is necessary for a complete perception of the game.

For the most part, the game was recognized for its good balance of races and atypical, for those years, gameplay, which marked the beginning of a new era of strategies.

  • Balanced system of pumping heroes;
  • Balanced system of the economy;
  • Interesting solo company;
  • Balan races;
  • You can play online;
  • The graphics are outdated.

Online Warcraft can be played on servers: tangle, garena, iCCup.

Heroes of Might and Magic III - Online

Released: 28.02.1999

Genre: Turn-based strategy with RPG elements

Although the series of "heroes" is quite old, but it has not acquired a noble plot. First of all, in the games of the series, the gameplay and the game component are appreciated, and the plot is completely unimportant.

The gameplay itself boils down to the fact that the player needs to destroy all opponents on the map. Initially, the subordinate player has an undeveloped castle and one hero. The castle is gradually pumped through the construction of new buildings, which opens up access to the hiring of new creatures. The hero can be pumped in battle, or by distributing gold from chests to your troops. To win, it is enough to destroy all the enemy heroes and capture all the castles.

There are 9 races in the game (exactly in the third part), including:

  • Castle - people;
  • Stronghold - elves;
  • The tower is the residence of magicians;
  • The fortress is a swamp;
  • Citadel - barbarians;
  • Inferno - demons;
  • Necropolis - undead;
  • Dungeon - rule over underground creatures;
  • Conjugation - they command the elements of the elements.

Each race has its own focus, advantages, special skills. For example, the necropolis knows how to raise the dead, inferno know how to turn their defeated fighters into demons, and so on.

Among the players, only the 3rd and 5th parts of the game are in demand, while the rest either do not match the gameplay, or have too much good graphics from which the eyes flow. We are talking about excessive detailing of the 6th and 7th parts of the game, which played a disservice. The fourth part did not suit the players' taste because of the creepy models and textures.

It is the third part of the heroes that is considered the genius of the series, therefore, major tournaments are still held on it and there is a significant gaming community. The problem with multiplayer heroes 3 is the length of the matches, as individual games lasted up to a month of real time.

If you want to try your hand at an online format, we advise you to visit the heroesworld portal, which contains all the useful information.

  • Extended economy system;
  • Developed pumping of heroes;
  • Balance of game needs (in pumping, building, hiring creatures, etc.)
  • Can be played over the network;
  • Balanced combat;
  • The presence of an unofficial team, constantly improving the game.

Civilization Series

Released: 1991-2016

Genre: global turn-based strategy

Initially, the game captured the minds of players with its interesting gameplay, which boils down to balancing the army, economy and development (and later culture) of the nation. The game also has a certain historicity, for all nations actually existed.

To win this game, you need to skillfully create cities, build trade networks between them, make alliances and betray allies, create an army balance that matches your economic development and competently develop technologies.

A simple example: if you only invest in the army, then a moment may come when your soldiers will fight with sticks, and the enemy will already have tanks. You can also invest only in development, but then your civilization can be destroyed by ordinary barbarians, and you will not have time to develop.

It is because of the diversity of the gameplay and the variability of development that many call Civilization the best strategy of all time.

On this moment available on Steam online game with random participants, allowing you to test your strengths and skills.

  • Unique system economics;
  • Unique research system;
  • Balance of nations and styles of play;
  • Advanced multiplayer;
  • Extended political system.

In 2016, the continuation of the legendary line was released, Civilization 6 became the best turn-based strategy of the year on PC.

The famous strategy to protect the earth from the invasion of alien invaders. You are a special squad of professionals, the only stronghold of humanity in the struggle for survival. Study alien technologies, take them into your arsenal and destroy your enemies!

The gameplay of the game is tied to the tactical and economic components. Economic - development of the base, right choice technology, additional rooms, waste of resources and more. Also, after the battle, the player receives trophies from the killed, which can then be sold on the black market or used independently in battle.

Many singled out XCOM as one of the best strategy games on the PC.

  • An interesting system for pumping fighters;
  • Various game cards;
  • Lots of battle strategies;
  • Interesting system of research, pumping the base;
  • Extraordinary endings.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert

Released: 1996-2008

Genre: real time strategy

The so-called "cranberry" strategy. For reference, cranberries are considered an unrealistic presentation of the inhabitants and ideology of the USSR, including its territory after the collapse. The game is built on this non-existent ideology. The action takes place in a parallel universe where there was no World War II, so all nations, including the USSR, were able to develop and become incredibly powerful.

Later, a time machine was invented to change the course of history. So, for example, the third part of the game takes place when the Russians decide to kill Albert Einstein in the past. The transfer to the past was successful, the USSR captured almost all of Europe, but the war did not end - it was only the beginning.

The gameplay is standard for games of this genre, namely, you need to develop your base, hire soldiers, equipment to completely destroy opponents on the map.

  • Fascinating plot;
  • Balance of Nations;
  • Unique combat units;

Space Rangers

Released: 23.12.2002

Genre:"Epic game" with elements of RPG, turn-based strategy, arcade, text quest.

A game about a war in an intergalactic space between intelligent races. The player can play with almost all races, except for Klisans and Dominators - hostile semi-intelligent races who receive orders from the main ships, which control their behavior. The entire plot of the game tells about the war of the peaceful races of the commonwealth against the above invaders.

The main advantage of the game is its gameplay. As you may have noticed, the game does not have a dedicated genre, since it is absolutely difficult to attribute it to any genre. But often the game is singled out as the best strategy, because most of the time the players spend controlling their spaceship in separate systems. There are also arcade elements in the game, namely, in flights between systems, you can stumble upon hostile nodes, where the game turns into a battle in real time.

RPG elements are manifested in pumping the skills of your captain, playing the role of a good ranger or an evil pirate smuggler. Elements of a text quest appear in some tasks that NPCs give out to the player, or, for example, during visits to prison establishments, where the player balances between being released as soon as possible and not being killed by inmates. In the latest versions of the game, there are also real-time strategy battles on planets.

As you can see, the potential of the game is incredibly high, and it can rightfully be called one of the best RPGs of all time, not only due to its unique gameplay, but also pleasant graphics, random generation of maps, planets, tasks and other things, which allows you to start the game again and again ...

  • A unique game world that is randomly generated in each new game;
  • Developed system of playing the role;
  • Nice mix of many genres;
  • Fascinating text assignments;
  • Nice graphics.

Stronghold: Crusader

Released: 2002-2014

Genre: real time strategy

Classic strategy game in which you act as the ruler of a small town. Your task is to develop military and economic power equally. V gaming companies you can play both the role of the brutal Arab ruler Saladin, and the role of the king of England, Richard the Lionheart.

The gameplay, as mentioned earlier, is concluded in the equal development of the army and the economy. Due to the unusual gameplay, the game gained recognition. Among the features of the game stand out, such as:

  • Your servants need to build private houses that determine the maximum number of army;
  • It is necessary to develop the food industry, for all of your war machine can die simply because of hunger. It also creates the possibility of a long siege of castles, forcing the enemy to decay with hunger;
  • Almost all fighters cannot be hired just like that - for them you need to create weapons, armor, and for this you need to collect resources.

If you play against the computer, you will notice that it creates monotonous castles, which, however, are not so easy to break through if the enemy is one of the strongest. Yet this is one of the downsides that can quickly discourage the desire to play. The main potential of the game is revealed on multiplayer maps, which can be played online using hamachi or tangle. It is also worth noting that an unambiguous disadvantage is the player's binding to the starting point - it is impossible to build buildings near the enemy's castle.

  • Unique production and economic system;
  • Advanced construction options;
  • Not a bad company;
  • You can play online with friends.

Kings bounty

Released: 2008-2014

Genre: role-playing real-time strategy with turn-based battles

An unusual combination of genre makes the game interesting enough for beginners, and beautiful graphics without excessive detail are pleasing to the eye. It is worth noting that in the last parts of the game it is possible to turn on the 3D game mode, which must be played with the appropriate glasses.

The player can choose between three classes: warrior, paladin and mage. Each of them conducts battles in their own way. For example, a warrior has an increased number of creatures, a mage attacks opponents with spells, and a paladin is something in between.

The game takes place in a fictional fantasy world inhabited by fairly canon magical creatures such as vampires, demons, elves. The player acts as a treasure hunter, on whose shoulders the fate of preserving the world rests. To begin with, he has to become a great hero, recruit an army of mystical creatures in order to fight the evil henchmen.

The gameplay looks something like this: you walk on the world map in real time, and when you stumble upon enemy units, a turn-based battle mode starts, where the hero can use a book of magic, spirits. It looks like a classic turn-based battle. When you walk around the map, you can communicate with the characters that inhabit the world, complete tasks for them, receive a reward, recruit troops, buy items, and so on.

  • Interesting character leveling system;
  • Many artifacts and unique creatures;
  • Interesting combat system;
  • Not boring quests;
  • Nice cartoon graphics;
  • Many games in the series are made in the same style.

StarCraft II - Online

Released: 26.06.2010

Genre: real time strategy

No less addicting game from the creators of Warcraft - Blizzard. The plot of the game tells about the battle of three space races: Zerg, Protoss and Terran. Unlike Warcraft, the game came out more dynamic and there are no heroes in it, which completely changes the priorities in battles.

StarCraft also has a rich storyline, however, it is fed to players during story cutscenes, making you an observer rather than a storyteller.

Each playable race has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, protoss units have many additional abilities that need to be used at the right time, otherwise the army will be quite weak. Given that the game itself is very fast, you need to have quick play and thinking skills to be successful in the game.

StarCraft is arguably the best PC strategy game of all time.

The game can be played online through the Blizzard game loader.

  • Race balance;
  • Balanced Economy;
  • Fast paced game;
  • You can play online;
  • Regular tournaments from official developers.

Warhammer 40,000 series

Released: 1999 - 2009

Genre: real time strategy

Warhammer is a fairly popular game, not only in computer form, but also in card form. The history of the game appeared long before the development of the computer sphere (in 1983) in America, which led to the success of the series.

The history of the world tells of bloody wars for control of the galaxy, grandiose betrayal and ascensions, etc. The games in this series are not tied only to the strategy genre, for there are both CCG and action games.

The most famous for the general public of the game of the series: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, tells about the war for the control of one dedicated planet between playable races... The player chooses one of the sides in the war, which has unique units and battle tactics. In the future, your task will be to seize control of the entire planet. Some games in the series divide gameplay into two phases: global turn-based control and real-time strategy. The first mode is just the choice of the point of attack, and the second is the battle itself. In battle, you need to rebuild your base, capture key points that bring one of two resources - influence, strengthen them and attack enemy bases. It should be noted that the main task of the game is to destroy all enemy buildings.

Almost all Wakha strategies can be played through hamachi.

  • Deep history;
  • Race balance;
  • Each race has its own unique characteristics;
  • An interesting system for improving units;
  • Interesting company.

Released: 2004-2006

Genre: Real-time strategy, fantasy

A series of strategies based on Tolkien's novels "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings", as well as Peter Jackson's MCU of the same name. The storyline follows strictly the originals, and this is one of the main advantages of the games. Familiar characters, events and most importantly - epic battles.

As for the gameplay, these are familiar strategies, but with some distinctive details. At the beginning of each task, the player, as befits the canons of the genre, needs to extract resources and build various buildings: farms, barracks, forges and more. Next, you create units, replenish the army with them and set off to destroy rivals.

Under your control will be "unique heroes" - familiar characters from "The Lord of the Rings". They have unique abilities: defensive, attacking and others. Heroes can be pumped - so they will become stronger and single-handedly be able to deal with a squad of enemies.

In addition to a single story campaign, there are customizable missions, as well as multiplayer in which you can fight other real players.

  • Some of the best Lord of the Rings games;
  • Thoughtful, epic strategy;
  • The atmosphere of Middle-earth, familiar heroes;
  • Multiplayer.

Spore

Released: 2008

Genre: God Simulator, RTS

Spore is an unusual game that combines several genres. In short, you will develop your character from scratch, when he will be just an atom in a giant ocean. Ultimately, he will become the leader of an entire civilization, which will conquer other planets and reach the center of the universe.

In the beginning, the game acts as a god simulator. You create your being and begin development in the depths of the world's oceans. The task is to absorb weaker creatures, while becoming stronger and increasing in size. After reaching some progress, you go out on land and begin to explore new terrain, while the gameplay changes dramatically.

The game gradually develops into a strategy. While on land, you will need to find a pair for your character to mate. Thus, you will have a whole tribe. As in the strategy, you will build buildings, hire people and participate in wars with other tribes.

The final stage is the conquest of the Universe. By building a spaceship, you can travel to other planets and capture them.

  • Unique gameplay combining several genres;
  • Colorful graphics;
  • Replay value;
  • Unusual end-game content.

Released: 1999- ... (still out)

Genre: Step-by-step strategy

Turn-based fantasy strategy, which became the ideological successor Game Master of Magic. Players will have to compete for power on global map, having previously selected the race. There are a lot of them, and some of them are traditional for the fantasy genre: people, elves, gnomes, orcs, halflings, lizard people and others.

The player will have his own city, which needs to be improved to receive various bonuses and open up new opportunities. To construct buildings, you will need resources - everything is as it should be for a strategy.

The battles are turn-based. Each unit has a limited number of movement points. They are spent, respectively, on the movement of the unit. Battles also take place in steps, and you personally choose which attacks or abilities to use. In this case, the unit may miss - this happens randomly.

You can test your skills not only with a virtual, but also with a real enemy. There is multiplayer in which you can challenge several players at the same time, teaming up with friends.

The series has not yet been shelved. The fourth part is announced, subtitled Planetfall, this time in an unusual direction - science fiction. The release is expected in 2019.

  • Turn-based combat system;
  • City building;
  • Abundance of races;
  • Construction of the castle.

Released: 2004-2016

Genre: RTS, Action, RTS

A series of military strategies united by one theme - World War II (excluding the game "Saboteurs: Vietnam"). The games feature various single player campaigns dedicated to the events of the war, as well as a multiplayer mode for battles between several players.

Unlike other strategies, Behind Enemy Lines does not pursue spectacular and large-scale battles. Thinking over the strategy comes to the fore, and as a result, reconnaissance, preparation for battle, and more. You will not control an army, but several soldiers, each of which fulfills its role (sniper, attack aircraft, and more). In the battle, you can use cover and terrain features.

What else is interesting in the games:

  • Realism. The reserves of ammunition and fuel are taken into account, when firing at long distances, fighters often miss, and so on;
  • Physics engine. Thanks to him, there is destructibility that affects the course of the battle;
  • Sophisticated damage system. For example, tanks cannot be penetrated with a machine gun, and the caliber and type of shells used play an important role in penetrating armor;
  • Manual control. As mentioned earlier, each soldier is under your control. He can be forbidden to shoot or personally aim and make shots with the mouse.

Released: 2003-2017

Genre: RTS

Blitzkrieg is a series of military real-time strategy games, mainly dedicated to the events of World War II. The player is asked to choose a side: the Allies, the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany, and go through the storyline. In addition to these factions, there are other, non-playable ones:

Italy, France, Poland. Each campaign includes several chapters and covers specific events of the war.

Unlike other strategies, there is no base building option in Blitzkrieg. At the beginning of the quest, you get a certain amount of equipment and infantry. The task is to conduct reconnaissance, learn about the main forces of the enemy and capture the base. Of course, it is impossible to achieve success without well-thought-out tactics. In addition to the main forces, the player can sometimes receive reinforcements.

In addition to single player multiplayer is available for several players. You can compete with friends or join forces against a group of other players.

The game engine has served as the basis for many custom modifications. For example, a mod that brings the Blitzkrieg action to the Warhammer universe.

  • Military strategy without building bases;
  • Custom modifications;
  • The tactical component.

Company of Heroes

Released: 2006-2009

Genre: real time strategy

The plot of the game repeats such films as "Saving Private Ryan", "A Bridge Too Far" and the television series "Brothers in Arms". Actions take place during the Great Patriotic War.

The gameplay is a classic RTS with wargame elements. Many note that the game resembles the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series due to the fact that the player can independently choose the weapon with which his platoons will fight. Troops also have a combat morale scale, which affects the effectiveness of soldiers. For example, if a platoon comes under machine gun fire, then its morale drops sharply, which reduces the rate of fire and running. In addition, when a member of the squad who was holding any weapon dies, it does not disappear, but remains on the ground where they can pick it up. The next feature of the game is the system of ranks of units, which, with each increased level of fighters, allows them to improve their characteristics, which creates a certain convention that units are not just meat.

Elements of wargame are also the fact that the player can install defensive structures that increase the effectiveness of the fighters. All ditches, sandbags, etc. can borrow your fighters to increase their efficiency. Since the game can maintain a small limit, and the battle speed is quite low, the result is an interesting combat simulator. Of course, as the absolutely best strategy this game not singled out, but she deserves to be at least a nominee.

  • Interesting game missions;
  • Unusual gameplay;
  • The feeling of real battles is created;

Cossacks series

Released: 2001-2016

Genre: economic strategy

The game stands out for its gameplay, which is based on the balance of economic and military power. The correct construction of the economy has a key role in the game, because even if you skillfully use military forces, skillfully withdraw them, divide them into groups, opening the horizon for a volley of cannons, then sooner or later, with a weak economy, you will lose to the player who is more focused on economic component. Firstly, a player with a strong economy can simply spam units - he does not need to think about their safety, because there are always resources. Secondly, the availability of resources such as coal and iron is tied to the ability of rifle units to attack. If there is no coal or iron, the soldiers cannot shoot. Also, food plays an important role, which is a constantly consumed resource. Therefore, if your population is growing, then the food infrastructure should grow accordingly.

The game also stands out in that each player can hire great amount troops, which allows you to use a diverse game strategy. Among the types of troops you can find: cavalry, melee units, ranged units, artillery. In addition, the game has a technical development that allows you to hire stronger and more technologically advanced troops.

Many players are betting that the third installment of the series will be the best strategy of 2016!

  • Dependence of military power on the economy;
  • Lots of battle strategies;
  • The need to balance the economy and military power.

Anno 1404

Released: 2009-2010

Genre: economic strategy

The plot is tied to a parallel reality, which, however, repeats real historical prototypes, such as the Crusades, the dawn of early forms of capitalism, and so on.

The gameplay is tied to the economic war and the development of colonies, settlements. You, as an effective ruler, need to correctly calculate the distribution of resources for the development of cities, conduct diplomatic relations. The combat component of the game is divided into naval and land battles, however, the possibility of waging wars is not immediately open, but later acts as one of the elements that help to defeat opponents.

All states are divided into two types: European and Eastern. A European country cannot fully develop without spices and quartz, produced only in the east, which naturally leads to the need for active trade, which is also one of the main ways of earning gold. One of the key tasks in urban planning is the construction of large cultural elements such as cathedrals or mosques.

  • Developed economy;
  • Interesting urban planning process;
  • Advanced diplomacy system.

Total War Series

Released: 2000-2015

Genre: global strategy

Some semblance of a historical strategy. Actions take place on the global map of the world at different periods of time - it all depends on the part of the game. The player can choose any of the presented countries and subsequently capture the entire map, depending on the established victory conditions.

But not for the plot and the historical component, this game is singled out as the best strategy on the pc, but for the gameplay. It is built on the turn-based movement of armies, the development and capture of cities in different countries. Battles take place in real time, where the player acts as a commander, places his troops on the map and directly controls the battle. There is also a politics mode where the player makes alliances, declares wars, exchanges resources, and so on.

  • Interesting system of politics;
  • Interesting in-game battles in real time;
  • Developed system of internal events (crusades, jihads, etc.);
  • Advanced system for improving cities, depending on their location.

Disciples

Released: 1999-2010

Genre: turn-based strategy with RPG elements

The game takes place in the brutal fantasy world of Nevendaar, where dark forces are eager to awaken from time to time. Companies for all nations are available to the player for passing. It turns out that the player himself weaves the whole story. There are five nations available in the game, including:

  • The undead hordes are servants of the ancient death goddess Mortis;
  • Empire - a race of people under the auspices of the supreme angels;
  • Legions of the damned - demonic minions of Betresen;
  • Elven Alliance - a united army of elves led by Queen Elumiel;
  • The mountain clans are a harsh foothill people ruled by a high king.

The gameplay is classic strategy. The player's task is to intelligently scout the territory, pump the army. Oh yes, unlike other strategies, here you can only hire minions of lower levels, which you need to pump in the future, gaining experience in battle. In general, the combat system in Disciples is unique, which led to the success of the game. Initially, the player starts with one capital and one hero. The capital is a unique city under the protection of a very strong creature, so from the very beginning it is almost impossible to break through the capital. The war is fought over the sources of magic - one of the resources and separate outposts that allow you to hire troops far from the capital.

  • Unique system for pumping creatures;
  • Races are not alike;
  • Race balance;
  • Interesting system for applying magic;

Age of Empires series

Released: 1997-2007 years

Genre: real time strategy

A fairly old game that can also claim to be the best pc strategy game of all time. The main advantage of this game is custom tournaments with large prize pools of up to $ 100,000. The reason for such sums for such an old game is its fans from rich countries who can afford to spend such sums on organizing tournaments.

The very same gameplay of the game comes down to a balance between technology, economy and army. Each nation in battle can switch between 5 eras:

  • Age of Research;
  • The era of colonization;
  • The era of fortresses;
  • Industrial era;
  • The era of the empire.

Each era opens up new research, types of troops and buildings. If you switch between eras early without spending money on the army, then most likely you will be crushed by "homeless people", and if you focus only on hiring troops, then most likely the enemy will crush you with a more high-tech limit.

Many players argue that in order to play effectively in AOE, you just need to be able to move your troops away from volleys of siege weapons and archers, which leads to low army losses and increased economic development, by reducing the consumption of resources to maintain the combat limit.

Play AOE online with friends or random players via Steam, Tanggle or Hamachi.

  • The need for skillful balancing of all game aspects (economy, troops, research, construction);
  • The balance of all races (in latest version);
  • Tournaments with a large prize pool;
  • Average game speed.

Age of mythology

Released: 01.12.2002

Genre: Real time strategy

The age of mythology is somewhat similar to the game described above, but still has different roots and features that allow you to build a more interesting game.

A key feature of the game is the replacement of eras with the worship of gods, granting special power and new mythical creatures with special characteristics and skills, such as fire or poisonous breath, freezing a key unit, and so on.

Unlike AOE, where the player has only a human and siege limit, AOM also has a mythical limit consisting of mythical creatures such as giants, dryads, rocs and others. ABM does not have such weighty prize funds, like AOE, but also has its own community, among which relatively regular tournaments are held.

You can play AOM online through Steam, Tanggl or Hamachi.

  • It is necessary to correctly balance all aspects of the game (economy, troops, research, construction);
  • Balance of all races and deities;
  • You can play online;
  • Average game speed.

Settlers 7

Released: 23.03.2010

Genre: RTS, city building simulator

Simulator of the construction of cities, which later create a vast kingdom. The main task of the game is to correctly place buildings, create transport links between them. The player can develop his kingdom in three directions, including:

  • Military production;
  • Scientific approach;
  • Trading perspective.

Each development path will ultimately lead the player to victory. For example, if you choose the military path, then the focus of your development will be the army, which will subsequently try to crush the enemies. The scientific path will help to defeat opponents with technology, and the trade path will help you capture the best trade routes on the entire map, which will give you an advantage over your opponents. Each of the development paths includes unique units.

Critics highlight good artificial intelligence but a weak storyline.

  • Good artificial intelligence;
  • Expanded urban planning opportunity;
  • Equality of development paths (economy, military development and technology).

In theory, nothing is quite as compelling as epic video games. The idea that the game can take weeks or even months of free time is fascinating and intimidating, but most people definitely enjoy it and do not regret the money spent and valuable time.

How often do most players get the chance to complete these huge epic universes? The further you get away from the almost unlimited free time as a child, the more difficult it becomes to find the hours to get the opportunity to get the most valuable achievements in the game.

You can start one of these scary video games - and even make some progress with them. But I am sure that the day will come when life puts so many obligations in your hands that there is no time left (or even a better game appears), and you leave that game on the shelf, with a vague promise "someday."

On the other hand, more is not always better, and many games end up throwing a huge snowball on your head, from which it is not easy to get out, that is, for one reason or another, you quit this game.

10. FUEL

Do we really need epic racing games? Does this genre really have a place to swing?

At least when it comes to Fuel, this is a truly epic game world. Map Fuel covers over 5,000 square miles, it sounds impressive and is technically excellent. But many who start playing will soon find that racing is not necessary in this vast world. This is especially true if you're trying to complete the biggest races that force you to travel from one end of the world to the other, but even shorter rides will quickly reveal Fuel's shaky mechanics, which is a downside to this game. The game's outlandish size was a big challenge for many gamers looking for massive amounts of content, but others found it to be long before they dive deep.

9. Gothic 3

At first sight, Gothic 3 seems like a pretty impressive game. Her world is just as impressive and has tons of epic quests and a great story to tell.

Unfortunately for Gothic 3, it came out around the same time as The elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion... Even if you don't make comparisons, and they literally suggest themselves, take the same general design of Gothic 3 missions or close combat. The game is, of course, incredibly deep, but the way of exploration and progress in the game is monotonous. It's sometimes easy to put up with mechanical defenses in the name of a grand adventure, but Gothic 3 is too broken and boring to justify itself.

The volume of Gothic 3 in content already gives us the opportunity to spend a couple of interesting hours in this world, but in the long term, the game does not justify itself.

8. Thief II: The Metal Age

Thief II Not only is one of the most important and well-made stealth games of all time, it is one that looks really cool over the years. Even now, many players return to this universe to plunge into it completely.

It is likely that many will never finish the game and this is something indicative of its brilliance ... and in some way harmful. Just as Thief II is fantastic, it is incredibly long lasting for a genre like this. If you go your way through trial and error, playing with fewer mistakes and a good sense of direction, you can easily take 25-30 hours to get through it. But most of them spent twice or even three times more time on it. A game of that duration, plus hardcore stealth. For Thief II, this means that you are going to spend a lot of time playing.

7. Demon's Souls

If you first met the series Souls after Dark souls have taken over the world, there is a good chance that you can test your nerves and play her ancestor Demon's Souls.

That being said, there is a good chance that you will never complete your path in the game. There are several reasons for this, but the most basic is that Demon's Souls it lacks many of the refinements that Dark Souls later brought to the franchise.

The game is mostly similar to the future installments of the series, but everything from combat to inventory management is a little "off". You come to games like this for the true test, but Demon's Souls has little more problems in balancing the difficulty level. Some of the early bosses in the game are so difficult that they take hours to get started to figure out which tactics to use.

Not everyone is ready to tackle the challenges the series faces, but Demon's Souls is a challenge even for fans of the series.

6. Disgaea: Hour Of Darkness

Disgaea infamous for its deep character creation system. One of the biggest features is the ability to raise your characters to 9999, unlock and equip them with ability scrolls all the time, and keep getting new outfits all the time.

It's impressive, but getting to that point is another matter entirely. While Disgaea is fun to play and brings a decent enough story, your main motivation to keep playing comes from leveling, leveling, and leveling up your character again. Even if you are not going to reach absurd ranges, it will still be difficult for you to achieve anything in this game after a couple of dozen levels. I wonder how long you will strive to new and new heights, if the rewards become less and less rosy?

As the levels get higher, prime numbers begin to be added to the reward, after these achievements already begin to lose all meaning. That said, even if you can never get to such high levels, Disgaea is still a game worth playing.

5. Dragon Warrior VII

For many gamers, the thought of 100+ hours of RPG is a dream come true. You’ll always think of this after spending $ 60 on a game and having eight hours of gunfights.

Dragon warrior vii most careful with your wishes. While its triple figure of playing hours is far from perfect, the game itself serves as a stark reminder that the reason most games aren't that long is because it's hard to generate compelling content to cover so much of the game world. You should really enjoy the very simple JRPG experience.

Dragon quest vii 40-hour gameplay in a shell of 100+ hours of RPG.

4. Final Fantasy II

Have you ever noticed that the second Final Fantasy not quite the game that fans of the series often talk about? There is a pretty good reason for this.

Like most Final Fantasy games, Final fantasy ii offers a great adventure for those who want to rush into it. Unlike many other Final Fantasy games, this adventure isn't worth going far. Without the gameplay innovations and incredible stories of later Final Fantasy games; Final Fantasy II just feels somewhat flawed. Playing in its original form is a pretty frustrating experience. You cannot save the game anywhere, some features and gameplay additions that were added in subsequent ports are missing.

Final Fantasy II is not the worst of the series, but without competition, it is clearly the most boring.

3. Chrono Cross

While opinions about Chrono cross tends to be somewhat controversial, the general consensus is that this game is not as good as Chrono trigger.

What's funny is that many people saw the game, but few people really wanted to play it. Chrono Cross takes some time to figure out its complex history, and more. It takes a lot of time to really demonstrate depth, but that, on the other hand, makes it combat system at higher levels it is more pleasant and understandable. I mean by playing Chrono Cross you won't get interesting gameplay up to twenty hours of play. All you get is mechanics training and quite a few uninteresting moments. The end game is pretty long, but is it worth making players go through so many hours for this?

I'm not crazy to call Chrono Cross one of the best RPGs of all time, but those people who have sat for hours going through this long depressing start may well think so.

2. Xenogears

The first part of this epic Playstation RPG helps protect its status as one of the absolutely greatest RPGs of all time. Incredible world Xenogears, memorable characters and a gripping story made it nearly impossible to bring joy to the game, even if you are not usually a big RPG gamer.

But then you get to the second Xenogears disc - everything falls apart.

Allegedly, the developers rushed headlong into the cycle, and this is most visible in the second part of the game. After half the narrative, much of the actual gameplay is ditched in favor of a heavy dose of cinematic storytelling. Xenogears may be a very good game, but I would not say that it is good enough to justify the fact that 20 hours of play is an anime ending. The dramatic change in tone and style will be too dramatic for many gamers, even if they really liked what the first half was.

1. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Morrowind is one of the most important role playing games of all time. This is a game that attracts millions of players with its open and incredibly large world, depth of content and fun character design system.

Although the battles in Morrowind are very difficult and sometimes even impossible, most players were prevented from even completing the main plot. Unlike later games in the series, which were willing to make some concessions in depth in the narrative in favor of providing an easier experience, but Morrowind does not make such concessions, he immediately throws you into this world, and does not give you any clues. Its navigation system is tedious and confusing, the combat is terrible and the game progresses at a snail's pace. Things get a little better as your character gets more competent to start eliminating stronger creatures, but that's not easy either. But Morrowind's problems make it even harder with 100+ hours of gameplay.

While some fans are willing to accept these shortcomings due to the depth of immersion, the game is gradually attracting even more recent players in the series. But despite this, Morrowind is sometimes too routine to play.

Preparing the area for a future settlement, building residential and infrastructural facilities with constant improvement of their characteristics, researching advanced technologies of their time and hiring new units for the army, challenging campaigns to neighboring states with the occupation of new lands to expand their own borders. Strategic project CITADELS from the studio Webgames LLC is based on the well-established standards of the genre, but at the same time it is able to attract a new audience and surprise with unusual gameplay findings. Take, for example, the highest social activity of players with constant interaction of a corporate format (exchange useful resources, the ability to join a guild or create your own union, mutual assistance, etc.). A no less serious influence on the positive assessment of the project is also exerted by the medieval atmosphere with regular fights of high entertainment - foot attacks are no longer used so actively, now the basis of victories is made up of throwing weapons, for example, catapults.

But for now, it is still far from significant victories, since at first you have to sort everything out on the shelves in the process of a detailed training level - a lovely assistant will tell and demonstrate how to build residential shacks and quarries with sawmills, where to get resources for further development, what to pay attention to in first of all. The preamble looks epoch-making and bewitching - vast virtual territories, impenetrable forests and waterfalls enchanting with their grandeur and power, high mountains and endless fields. And it is necessary to use natural resources prudently and competently, not squandering valuable resources in vain. Remember that it is not worth marking time for a long time either, you should maintain a high rate of development, because the neighbors are not asleep at all and will gladly conquer the technologically backward kingdom.

Quite expectedly, half of the problems of the virtual state can be solved by competent military campaigns to neighboring territories - valuable resources appropriated as trophies significantly accelerate the pace of general development, and the glory received in victories and military successes, quite expectedly, will reach the enemies, calming their ardor for a while. and giving you time to recuperate after the war. Although remember that they are always within walking distance, waiting for the right moment for a treacherous attack. With all the advantages, there is CITADELS and a big minus, which lies in the excessive schema of everything that is happening - the current time is sluggish while waiting for the construction of the next object, battles unfolding in an automatic format without the direct participation of the gamer and not always positive news from the outskirts of the kingdom. If the authors allowed gamers to independently solve a little more issues, then the strategy would literally become a bestseller, and so a solid four, nothing more.
